The Start of a New Life

Hello my name is Madeline Edwards. Madi for short. Everyone expects me to be perfect. I'm supposed to be some super girl that can maintain perfect grades, looks, friends, family, and a boyfriend. I'm getting tired of it. Sometimes, I just want to be me. The Madi I've been hiding for years. I've never had the chance to be the real me. It's about time I change that.
I was walking home from school one day when this boy that lives by me, Jason, caught up to me and started talking.
"Hey Madi. I was wondering if you wanted to do homework together."
"Jason, just leave me alone, you barely know me. And I don't really care much for you." I replied, just wanting to leave.
"What Madi I see the way you look at me."
"No Jason I don't look you. I'm sorry-wait no I'm not. Leave me alone."
"Whatever, I've got a ton more chicks I can call to study with. Your loss!" He said, then taking off towards his house all the while mumbling something incoherent underhis breath.
"I hate that kid." I said aloud to myself. Then I got this brilliant, golden idea. I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, bent down, tied my shoes, secured my backpack. Then, I took off running out of the neighborhood. Then out of my familiar area. Then, before I knew it, it was an hour later and I was on the outskirts of town. The less fortunate area I wasn't used to. It looked so eerie and old. Not to mention covered in germs, filled with delapitated buildings and people I've never seen before. Women in short skirts, bras, fishnet stockings with holes in them, and stilettos.I was both amazed and skocked at the same time. I slowed down to a walking pace and headed into the nearest shop.
"Welcome to Little Italy Pizza Parlor!" said this overweight man at the register. He had greese stains on the front of his shirt and was missing several teeth.
"Hi," I wasn't in the mood for talking. "Can I have a slice of cheese pizza and a glass of water?"
"Sure thing hun, you seem a little young to be out on your own at this hour. Do your parents know you're here? Anyways, $6.50 please."
"I'm paying money for food, that money is your paycheck. I don't think you care if I have an adult with me if it costs you a weeks pay." I snapped back. I slapped $6.25 on the table, took my food and left. He'd get blamed for that quarter.
I kept walking looking for a place to sit. Finally after 10 minutes of dawdling, I found a picnic table next to a building. I sat down and started to devour my pizza when I got a little visitor.
"You runnin' away too? I'm Jet." said this awfully stunning runaway. He stood infront of me wearing a black leather jacket. He had on gey jeans and black combat boots. His brown hair was was flat on his head and his bangs covered his eyebrows.
"Why, can you sense your kind? Things at home are... complicated. I'm tired of pretending and I wanted to get away. For good. What about you?" I replied taken slightly aback by this stranger's smile.
As I looked into his eyes he kind of reminded me of why I was running away. 'Cause some kid had finally broken me? But looking into his eyes I somehow knew we were gonna be alright.
I also kne wmy mother and father were going to look for me so I sent them this text:
"Mom im fine i havent been kidnaped. U wount find me im sry bye."
And I turned my phone off.
"Same. People kept wanting me to be someone I'm not. Plus home ain't all that gud either. I left with all of my money, what little my dad had, and some of my brothers drug money from under his pillow in the room we share. Stuffed important things into my backpack, and left. So where are you headed?"
"Follow me and you'll find out." I could use a friend on this trip. But he made me kind of rethink that I only left with the $10.75 I got back in change for that bacon and egg sandwhich this morning. And he didn't look too frightening. I could get used to this whole run-away-deliquent thing. As long as I had Jet by my side.
