The Beggar’s Money

Chapter One

Devil Struck, the old

man went blind

LONGTIME AGO, there was an old blind man living in the

village few

kilometers away from the

city. According to report, the

old man became

blind as a result of terrible

disease that he had when

celebrating

birthday at the age four years

old.

This blind man was highly

gifted in the art of singing,

drumming and

dancing. He used to move

round the city that is near

the village where

he resides daily singing

marvelous songs full of

inspirations. The people

loved him for his highly

creative and inspiring songs.

In

appreciation, several people

in the city and neighboring

villages often

dashed the blind old man

money, food, clothes and

other valuable materials

to take care of him with.

The blind old man used to

return to the village daily.

This blind old man lived in the village near the city alone. He

had no

parents, siblings, wife, or

children. He lost everything to

the terrible

diseases that invaded the

village few years ago killing

mass

inhabitants. Only few villagers

were able to survive the attack.

The Devil struck during that

period and got many villagers

killed by the terrible diseases

that nobody knew the source.

The

blind old man was lucky to

survive.

Chapter Two

Life as a Beggar

To engage himself so as to keep

both the body and soul

together, the blind old man

started street begging for arms

on daily basis.

Singing, dancing, beats the

talking drum creatively.

Rendering strange

thought-provoking prayer for

the masses. The blind man

became so

popular for his entertainment

and prayers and people were

highly

delighted to bless him with

cash gifts, food, clothes etc.

The blind man was humorous

as well as friendly to both the

rich and the

poor in the town, city or all the villages around. He usually

went

around the city and villages

alone begging for alms.

He would

prayerfully shout aloud for

people's help or assistance in

any way or

form. No Good Samaritan

would not love to offer a help.

The blind old man went about commonly in khaki uniform

shirt and dark brown

short knickers together with a

big woven hat to protect him

against

the scouring sun or harsh

rainfall.

Chapter Three

The Notorious Boys

and the Beggar

Meanwhile, the blind old man

do trek across a Community

Primary School

compound every evening when

going back to his small hut built

in village to have a rest after

each assignment of the day was

completed.

Unknown to the blind old man,

there were two stubborn pupils

from the

community school who already

have been observing and

crafting some

evils as they saw him with big

pocket full of coins collected

from

people all the time he passes in

their presence.

These two boys were wicked, notorious and extremely

terrible among the pupils in the

community primary school.

In fact, the boys do plan and

execute troubles at random

anywhere anytime causing

damages to lives and properties

whenever they strike.

They were strong evil planners

and frontier members of

several gangs and cults

underneath unknown to other pupils in the school.

Really, one could take these

guys for granted simply because

nothing in them could proof

otherwise,

They usually pretend to be

matured, innocent and easy

going under a smallish body

frame or stature.

Whereas, they are grand-

masters when it comes to

committing first-class crimes in cheating, stealing, causing riots,

rapping and fighting.

Indeed, the boys are very

clever, notorious, stubborn,

wicked and tyrant

Those who fall-victim of their

wicked acts and deeds, will

never pray or wish a good

destiny for them at all in life.

Those who know them will

never pray to enter their traps,

or be a victim in their abode or be captured by their net or get

camped in their custody.

Everything about the boys was

terrible and unpredicted.

The worst part of it, the parents

of these stubborn boys have

disowned them forever.

The decision was taken for

reasons.

They have brought shame,

reproach, several pains and

troubles to the parents on several occasions in the village

too numerous to count or

mention.

In dealing with the blind old

man on his way home, the two

boy would be making jest of

him and do all other things to

disturb the blind man for as

long as it pleases them. The

blind old man used to warn the

boys but they insisted in the act.

Chapter Four

The Evil Day

One day, as usual. The two boys

wanted to rent a bicycle each

that will carry them to the next

village

to watch a football match between their school and C.M.S

Model International School.

They wanted to watch the

match slated for the day but

had no money, so they planned

to rod the blind old man of his

money.

On that fateful day, the blind

man did not return on time as

the two boys thought.

However, they waited furiously until they sighted the blind old

man coming.

“Let‘s waste no time”, Quick,

Quick, Quick!!!

The shorter boy ordered his

partner.

They both dealt with the blind

old man and robbed him of his

money.

They softly, softly approached

the blind old man coming.

Without wasting any time at all, the two boys carefully snatched

the blind old man’s bag loaded

with money.

It was a big struggle that lasted few minutes between them and

the blind man.

However, the two boys

succeeded in carrying away the

beggar’s bag full of cash.

NO…! NO…!! NO…!!!

Don’t take it away!

Thief…Thief…Thief!!!

The blind old man shouted, but

it yielded no result.

The blind old man wept bitterly after the bad incident.

He rejected his condition as a

blind person; If not for mine

sight problem, how can those

silly boys conquer me…Never!

Some people later came to the

scene and console the blind old

man. When they saw and heard

him crying bitterly like a baby.

He related his bitter experience

to the people who came to

console him on that terrible day.

“Leave them alone, God will

reward them accordingly”

That was the statement by

most people and sympathizers

who gathered and guided the

blind old man to his village hut

on that fateful day.

The evil was hatched fearlessly.

The boys went away with the stolen money. They threw away

the bag and left the poor blind

old man to his fate indefinitely.

According to plan, the two boys

went to hire a bicycle each that

will carry them to the arena

where they wanted to watch

football match which is about

six kilometers away!

They wanted to witness the

kickoff of the football match

that remained just fifteen minutes and a few seconds.

As they were in a great hurry,

they rode their bicycles at the

middle of the road in high

speed not minding the

approach of any oncoming

vehicle.

The two boys engaged the

bicycles like an expert.

These two boys highly speed on with the bicycles like cyclists in

racing competition. They both

proofed to be experts in bicycle

riding

as the wheels kept rolling with

pedals. They wished the

bicycles could

fly like a bird so as to save time.

Sorry, bicycles are never made

to

fly but to run only. May be the

next-generation bikes will be

made to

function that way!

"We now have enough money

to enjoy ourselves" The two

boys waved at

each other in uttermost pleasure

as they rode on faster than

imagined.

"Life must fly with Time, Today

na Today!"...They both

confidently declared.

With few minutes left for the

match takeoff, the two bike

riders were

about approaching a sharp bend not far from a narrow

bridge. They

failed to slow down, instead the

bikes was geared on full speed

like a

crazy dog. Like the cyclists will

do in the final lapse of a

completion.

Really, “a horse does not reject the race to the home" says

the Yoruba adage.

Meanwhile, by the unseen end

of the sharp bend, there was a

car

approaching equally on top

speed. The driver of the saloon

car was no

more himself. He was drunk

and overcharged with alcohol

at that moment.

Unknowingly, the two boys jammed the car right at the

sharp bend at the

mid of the road. What an

unfortunate incident. It was too

late to

apply a brake or shift to

another side of the road at that

deadly

moment.

Like strike of a thunder, the saloon car knocked off the two

boys into

the bush at different directions

furiously and went over their

bicycles

without waiting.

Unknowingly, one of the

boys voiced out saying:

“The Consequence has come

our way”

Nobody knew what happened to the two boys until a week

after.

THE END.
