“One of you? Are you calling me a Conk?”
Sadys snorted, “Not literally. I would never. But you take my meaning, my king.”
“I don’t, actually,” I scowled, knowing exactly what she meant.
“I should think you of all people would realize someone like Corporal Syx might do this sort of thing sooner or later.”
I smirked. “Are you accusing her of setting me up?”
“Going out into the jungle did leave you vulnerable to Crewd’s pirates, and Corporal Syx was with you the entire time. But that’s neither here nor there. You’re much safer here at base from the likes of them.”
“Them?”
“The Xenos,” Sadys tittered like I was missing the obvious. “If you’re here, I can best keep an eye on them. I can protect you from them, my king. If you’ll allow it, I will make your safety my first priority at all times.” She was obviously dropping yet another unsubtle hint about wanting to be my first.
“I’m sure you would,” I snorted. “But I don’t need any protection from the Xenos here or anywhere,” Unless you counted dragons, I thought with a grumble. “And your theory about Corporal Syx doesn’t make any sense. Don’t you think she’d be thanking me for ruling in her favor yesterday? You know, with that Lieutenant Dyna thing? Dyna’s bullshit accusation that proved to be false?”
“Perhaps Corporal Syx heard you were watching explicit video of her alone in her bunk, my king…” Sadys said with the sweetness of radiator fluid, “…and perhaps she didn’t exactly… appreciate it.”
“Perhaps you told her I was watching,” I shot back sarcastically.
Sadys’ icy blue eyes tightened with cold fright. “I would never!”
“I hope not,” I warned, not liking her constant manipulative maneuvering. I thought for a moment before saying, “For all we know, Lieutenant Dyna set this up to get revenge on me and Corporal Syx. Dyna is the one I had locked up, not Syx, and Dyna was released in time to carry this out. For all we know, Dyna sent a secret message to Crewd’s pirates and told them where I was.”
Sadys gasped, “Lieutenant Dyna would never do that, my king!”
“Why not? She tried to frame Syx once. Why not twice? If I didn’t know better, Colonel,” I scowled at Sadys, “I might start thinking you’re the one behind this.”
Sadys’ eyes goggled in shock. “Never, my king! I wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing!”
I arched a knowing eyebrow.
“Begging your pardon, my king. Are you questioning my loyalty?”
“Gee, what do you think?”
“Have I not offered myself to you countless times since your arrival?”
I replied with a silent smirk.
“If you doubt my loyalty,” she scoffed, “take me here. Better yet, take me to the auditorium, summon your officers, and bed me in front of them. Have your way with me. I welcome the opportunity to be your first. You know that.”
It was impossible not to imagine myself doing exactly what she suggested, deeply indulging in the hot heat of hate sex she was tempting me with.
I knew it for what it was.
Manipulation.
Naked, desperate manipulation.
Although Sadys pretended to be loyal and agreeable, she was obviously scheming and untrustworthy, and much better at politicking than I had ever been or could ever hope to be. If she kept it up, I’d have to start calling her Snakys.
I said, “I’m tired of talking about this, Colonel. If you have evidence to back up your claims, that’s one thing. But you don’t and I’m not interested in hearing your wild theories.”
“They’re not wild, my king.”
“Oh? How’s this for wild. You’re the spy, Colonel Sadys. You’re the one telling Baron Crewd my whereabouts. Shall I have you executed now or at sunrise? It’s only a few hours away.” I was tired and I was being dramatic to make a point, but it seemed the only way to shut Sadys up so I could sleep.
“I’m no spy, my king!” Sadys gasped. She dropped to her knees, her full mouth directly in line with my crotch. “I’m yours to command! My body is yours to do with as you will! I would never betray you! You must know that, my king!”
“Now you know what it feels like to be falsely accused without any evidence to back it up. If you want, you can spend a night in the stockade to think it over.”
Sadys’ ice-blue eyes shivered with vivid fear.
I wasn’t going to lie. I took a certain satisfaction watching her squirm.
“Please, my king! You can’t do that! The women would… they would…” Sadys couldn’t bring herself to finish her thought.
“What would they do, Colonel? Would they lose respect for their commanding officer? Is that it?”
Sadys’ face knotted, likely holding back hidden rage.
“One more false accusation,” I warned, “whether it’s from you or someone like Lieutenant Dyna, and I’m locking you up for a week. You, Colonel. Not them. You. Understood?”
Sadys didn’t break eye contact with me, but she did arch her back, lifting her cleavage so it bulged from the V-cut in her uniform, thrusting her breasts up toward my crotch like she was waiting for me to paint them where she knelt.
Because I was so tired, I couldn’t stop myself from looking. My eyes dove straight into her pleasing cleavage, the same way a lost man stranded in the scorching sands of the Sahara would dive into an oasis of sweet water, reveling in the overwhelming wetness of it, submerging himself in those wet and heavenly… breasts.
Sadys said, “If you lock me up in your quarters and have your way with me, I will go willingly, my king.”
“No way,” I snorted. I really hated she was so damn hot, but after this conversation, hate sex was now off the table. It had gone beyond hate with Sadys and turned into putrid disgust.
“You can’t wait forever to choose your first,” she purred. “I see it in your eyes, my king. You want me.”
I locked eyes with her and forced a smug sneer.
“Don’t deny it, my king,” she
