“That’s little?” I snorted. “It looks like freaking Godzilla.”
“What is God… what did you call it, my king?”
“Not that,” I smirked, nodding at the screen. “What is that thing? It looks like a gigantic, blood-red Tyrannosaurus Rex.”
“Almost. This is what we call a Titanosaurus Rex.”
“Titano-saurus Rex?”
“Yes, my king. The soldiers call them ‘trax’ for short.”
“Trax?”
“Yes, trax. But this one is unusually large, my king. The largest I’ve ever seen.”
“Let me guess,” I smirked. “This is a Zalaxian dragon, right?” Ever since the Bombshells had mentioned dragons on Zalaxia, I’d been dying to see one. Not attacking the outpost, of course, but since I didn’t have a choice, may as well amuse myself with the view.
“Begging your pardon, my king, no. Not a dragon. Titanosaurs can’t fly. They don’t have wings.”
“But dragons do?”
“Yes, my king. Regarding our current situation, this isn’t the first time we’ve dealt with a Titanosaur. But never one this large. If it wasn’t for the Shield Dome being down, I wouldn’t bother you. My women — our women — can handle a Titanosaur.”
“Wait, did you say Shield Dome?” I knew from being on the Artemis how powerful the kinetic shields were for space ships, so I wasn’t surprised they used them for buildings.
“Yes, my king. Ours is down,” Sadys nodded. “Due to the size of this particular trax, it poses a serious threat.”
“We better go take a look.” I stood up, pushing back my chair.
“You don’t have to, my king. You can finish your breakfast in peace. I can handle this. I just wanted you to be aware, in case we have to evacuate.”
“Evacuate?”
“A trax this size could easily trample the entire outpost.”
“Oh.” I looked back at the Star Wars-esque battle on the floating monitor. “It is big, isn’t it?”
“Don’t worry, my king,” Sadys encouraged. “We’ll take care of it.”
“No, it’s fine. I want you to take responsibility, but I’m happy to help. Besides, I’d like to see this trax with my own eyes and make sure it doesn’t do any stomping.”
Captain Theia chimed in and said, “Are you sure that’s wise, my king? Going outside?”
“Not entirely, Why?” I said.
“My king,” Theia said, “Titanosaurs are very dangerous. As Colonel Sadys mentioned, this one’s enormous.”
“I can see that. The more mass the better,” I winked, thinking about my two rings. I hadn’t been able to extract any mass from Crackfang the Terrorsaur, probably because he or she had been too quick. But a beast like this Titanosaur would be so slow moving, I might be able to extract a literal mountain’s worth of mass to charge my rings, and neutralize the threat to the outpost in the process.
Captain Theia said, “With all due respect, my king, there’s no telling what might happen if you confront the Titanosaur yourself. You’re very tired and it’s much safer in here than out there.”
“Try telling that to Captain Kirk,” I winked.
“Captain who?” Theia frowned.
“Nobody,” I grinned. “Don’t worry, I won’t get too close.”
“Yes, my king,” Theia nodded obediently.
“Colonel Sadys,” I said, “Please lead the way.”
“Your wish is my command, my king,” Sadys said, pursing her blood red lips in irritation.
If I didn’t know better, I’d say Colonel Sadys wanted me dead. Or wanted to suck my blood while she sucked me off with her sexy vampire lips. Hard to say with her.
I had no doubt I’d find out soon enough.
—: Chapter 17 :—
Captain Theia and her Shock Knights followed me and Sadys out of Medical and through outpost’s hexagonal corridors. With ratcheting clacks, the Shock Knights deployed golden power armor that covered everything from their necks down.
In the corridors, a flurry of women rushed past us in every direction, their boots slapping the deck. Some wore the usual V-cut uniforms, others wore power armor. Overhead, red warning lights blinked continuously in every corridor.
Obviously, the outpost was on alert.
Colonel Sadys led us to a low but very wide, hexagonal hatch. It was currently open and led outside. From inside the outpost, a platoon of armored guardswomen went jogging past us, all of them carrying heavy energy rifles taken from the armory. ABR-17’s and a variety of other models I remembered seeing in the armory racks but couldn’t name.
The lead guardswoman I recognized as Sergeant Kane, the soldier who had briefly captured Violet’s tribeswomen yesterday afternoon before I had driven off Kane and her squad of Royal guardswomen with the help of Mudsy, the Red Mud Man — a Dirt Elemental, if you prefer — who I had conjured up with my ring. By conjured I meant engineered, using my Bombshells Ring’s PATTERN functionality to shape jungle dirt into a generally humanoid form and POSITION vectors to animate him. Worked like a charm. Chased off the Royal guardswomen, no problem.
Sergeant Kane was also the woman who had physically beaten Oia, Venus and Cygna here at the outpost last night, as ordered by Colonel Sadys.
I’d seen it with my own eyes.
Seeing Kane now made my blood boil. At the very least, I’d like to strap Kane to one of those rotating knife-throwing wheels you see at carnivals and take a few shots at her. Not with knives. With an ABR-17. While wearing a blindfold. And shooting behind me over my shoulder. Or see how she liked being on the receiving end of the plasma whip I’d seen her holding when I’d found her standing over the Bombshells while they lay nearly lifeless and badly beaten on the rooftop landing deck. Now was not the time. Stopping the trax took higher priority. I couldn’t risk it stomping the outpost with the Bombshells inside. Any vengeance I felt toward Kane would have to wait.
“Move it, ladies!” Sergeant Kane barked. “We’ve got ourselves a big one this time!”
“Yes, ma’am!” her squad hollered respectfully as they trotted outside onto the red dirt, deploying their helmets and visors, sealing their
