I stop by your house and see if you're home, are you going to freak?"

"I don't freak."

"You're a rock." She leaned back, crossed her legs, and appreciated his ease at going with the flow. "What's going on between us?"

"Hm?"

"You. Me." She cocked her brow. "I like you."

He showed no surprise. "I like you, too."

"You came over to..." She lowered her voice. "To ask me to be friends?"

"No." He looked over her head into the other room before meeting her gaze. "I wanted to be with you."

"For sex?" she whispered.

He gave a slight nod. "I usually go to the clubhouse but wanted to come to you."

"Whoa..." She got up, grabbed his paper plate, and threw it in the garbage. "Maybe we need to slow down."

She had nothing against having sex with him. In fact, she looked forward to being with him again, this time in a bed. But she would never be someone's convenience.

Newness always wore off. If he looked for sex from others while getting it from her, he wasn't worth it.

She thought what was happening between them was mutual. That having him show up at the house meant he sought her out. Only her.

"How slow do I have to go?" he asked.

She turned around, staying across the room, and faced him. "Depends."

She hadn't meant to take the conversation to a serious end. That wasn't what was on her mind when he showed up at the house. She was happy he was here.

"Tell me, what does it depend on?"

"If you're going to the women at the clubhouse on the days we don't see each other."

"I don't want the women there." His gaze intensified. "I want you."

Half amused, she studied him. He was a smooth one, telling her what she wanted to hear.

She wasn't asking for a committed relationship. As a single mom raising two boys and trying to get her feet back under her, she wanted the company of someone who made her happy and relaxed her.

There were times, she deserved to be pampered.

Setting rules and obligations only complicated matters.

She walked to him and kissed him softly. It was on the tip of her tongue, which was in his mouth at the moment, to ask him to stay.

He slipped his hand around her thigh and tugged her forward when she remembered Trina was spending the night. While her boys were raised in an unconventional house, knowing adults were allowed certain things that children weren't, she had promised Speeder to watch over Trina.

"I have to watch Trina tonight." She kissed him again. "Can you come back tomorrow night?"

"Tomorrow is the get-together." He leaned back in the chair. "Bring the boys and stay at my place afterward."

Curious to see where he lived and excited that he would invite her into his life, she smiled. "It's a date."

He stood, bringing her to his chest. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Mm." She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her cheek against his chest. "I can't wait."

She walked with him to the door and stood out on the porch. It seemed natural to want him to stay. But she only had one day to wait until she could be with him.

Waving, she watched him ride away. She exhaled heavily in pleasure, counting the minutes.

Chapter Nineteen

Trip walked into the house as the phone rang.

He went straight to the kitchen and picked up the receiver of the landline. "Trip here."

"Do you have them?" asked Prez.

"I left with Bonnie, but she needed to swing by Speeder's house and drop off Trina's phone she'd left at the get-together." Cocking his head, he picked up the soft putter of a car. "Sounds like they're pulling in now."

"I'll let those at the cave know we've got the area clear. See you tomorrow."

He disconnected the call and walked to the front door, opening the house to them. The training for the participants in the Alpha Bio Project had entered the next stage. The men would be let out of their cells and taken into the woods surrounding Bonnie's house.

There, they'd be tested on their new skills, beginning the phase of controlling their bodies and adapting to the new sensations.

Inviting Bonnie over to stay at his house wasn't only a way to get her away from the property. He wanted to be with her.

Zach exited the car first. "So dope, man."

No kids had ever entered his house before. No woman, either. His house was the one place where he trained and became stronger. He could sleep, knowing nobody could hurt him.

The government agency had rebuilt and adapted each house occupied by an original where they could continue their skills on their own. While the originals were required to have monthly check-ins with the other participants, putting them through the battery of tests at their homes.

It kept traffic down on the mountain, and none of the locals wondered why members of the MC were showing up at the houses, considering the brotherhood.

Speeder's training facility was contained inside a pole building built behind his house. Keenan's gym took up the whole basement in a sprawling ranch-style house, and Johnny had a containment center built underground away from town. Prez, Hank, and Trip lived along the river, forcing them to have their training area inside their house. From the outside, the size of his home seemed to impress most people.

Kenny ran up to him. He stepped back and lifted his chin. "Go check it out."

With the kids occupied, he walked out to the car and opened the driver's door. Bonnie glanced at him before looking through the windshield again.

"You're rich," she mumbled.

The CIA provided for him. Food, shelter, and lifestyle. Money meant nothing to him.

He leaned into the car, kissed her, and said, "Come inside."

She looked at him and sighed. "You've shocked me."

"Don't worry about it." He took her hand and pulled her out of the car and straight to his chest.

She raised her chin. He captured her lips, feeling the tension leave her body. They'd spent the evening over at the get-together where
