An Affair
of the
Heart
Winter
When winter comes
The snow falls
Covering the trees
Like silken shawls
The lakes freeze
So smooth and clear
And icicles hang
Like frozen tears
Everyone inside
Huddles together
To keep warm and snug
In this chilling weather
It’s time for snowball fights
And building snowmen
Sledding down hills
Ice-skating with a friend
To sip hot chocolate
In front of a fire
While outside snowdrifts
Get higher and higher
And then the day comes
When warmth reappears
And winter’s washed away
Till the same time next year
With Paper and Pen
I put down my feelings
With paper and pen
Too scared and confused to speak
I wait for the moment
When all will be right
And my heart is not so weak
Don't you see it in my eyes? Can't you feel it in my touch?
Won't you see through my disguise? Am I asking too much?
I listen for hours
To family and friends
Who say I am much too unkind
But they couldn't know
They couldn't see
That it's all suppressed in my mind
Can't you feel it in my touch? Don't you see it in my eyes?
Am I asking too much? Won't you see through my disguise?
Sometimes I remember
I mostly forget
To tell people just how I feel
Mostly in anger
But sometimes in tears
The feelings begin to unreel
I wish you'd see it in my eyes, I wish you'd feel it in my touch
I wish you'd see through my disguise, Could I be asking too much?
I wish I could tell you
My innermost thoughts
That I put down with paper and pen
Until I can share them
And open my heart
I'll probably cry once again
Capture Me
Capture my heart
with a vision of love
said the maiden
as she walked about the lake
Capture my faith
with a confession of truth
said she as with wine
her thirst did she slake
Capture my mind
with a poets quote
said the fair one
with flowers in her wake
Capture my body
with your said
the mistress and my
heart and soul you may take
Harmony at Twilight
Fragile pitter-patter, pitter-patter
of the rain
falling gently, ever-softly
on the window pane
Quiet tap, tap, tap
of the branches swaying
the whispering silhouette
of a woman praying
Noisy drip, drop, drip
of a faucet leak
silent scurry of a mouse
a tiny squeak
Dragging bang, dragging bang
of a shutter loose
lonely honk, invisible honk
of a wandering goose
Breathless sigh, moving eye
of the sound asleep
lowkey growl, echoed howl
from the forest deep
Creaking stretch, stretching creak
of a settling floor
rattle stop, rattle stop
of a wind shook door
Fragile pitter-patter, pitter-patter
of the rain
falling gently, ever-softly
on the window pane
I Cry
As I stare into the night
memories assault me
it is not a pretty sight
I cry
Years go by and pain burns
this empty heart of mine
my soul years
and so I cry
Images flash through my mind
of moments of happiness
other pictures are not so kind
still I cry
I lie awake, too troubled to dream
afraid of the nightmares
I focus on a moonbeam
which dared to tempt the shadows
A cloud passes over the moon
cutting off my ray of hope
leaving me alone in the gloom
I cry
Newborn Bliss
Soft as a rose
newly in bloom
and smelling quite faintly
of the sweetest perfume
Pink as the sky
when it's touched by the dawn
and as fragile and dependent
as a newly born fawn
Hair as fine
as silken thread
spread like down
upon the head
Cooing as quietly
as a mourning dove
an armful of joy
a bundle of love
A Dragon’s Demise
Amethyst eyes
reflected the fire
flowing from the mouth
that fueled the death pyre
Scales sharp as razors
taut as a sheath
covered powerful muscle
that rippled beneath
Green, gold and amber
in firelight glowed
with proud wings unfurled
the head remained bowed
Homage was paid
an ancient life gone
the sentinel remained
'til the coming of dawn
I Will Catch You If You Fall
Don't look back
take a step into the present
the fragile memories hang upon the wall
Reach deep into your soul
and find that hidden strength there
and know that I will catch you if you fall
Like a baby learning how to walk
or a leopard learning how to stalk
you must move by instinct, not under the gun
Like a baby learning how to walk
you must move step by step until you run
and realize that your new life has begun
They Need You
When I see the children’s faces
On the dry and dusty streets
When I see their stomachs bloated
And their bones devoid of meat
When I listen to the television
Saying lives were lost
When I hear the evening news
Talking of a holocaust
When I smell the smoking fires
As the crops begin to burn
When I taste the salt of flowing tears
My heart begins to yearn
Something must be done, someone must be saved
Instead of money being spent on roads that must be paved
No one can be heartless, nothing can be lost
On buying life for families,Not groceries at cost
When I feel the pain of thousands
Whose homes are lost in flood
When I think of victims dying
Because no one will give blood
When I tremble at the thought
That people everywhere are killed
When I see the pain filled faces
Of those whose blood has spilled
When I hear the garbled speeches
Of all those who can’t read
When I listen to the crying
My heart goes to those who need
No one can be heartless, something must be done
If people think it’s over, our fight has just begun
Nothing can be lost, someone must be saved
Money must be spent on life, not roads to be paved
Everyone must listen, everyone must care
Think of all the love that’s missed by children lost out there
Anyone can help them, anyone can try
If people don’t start caring, families may die
Spirit Mother
She walks on forgotten whispers
gown blowing in lost conversations
She smiles at rays of sunshine
that fall on extinct nations
She talks to troubled spirits
hands gesturing in the moonlight
She frowns at falling teardrops
lost amid the stars so white
She lingers in the autumn breeze
tresses weaving about her face
She sighs at languages long lost
at human wars for greed, for race
She cries as forests fall in silence
gracefully slipping slowly away
She turns her eyes in shame and sorrow
and fades into the coming day
Send Me a Message
Send me a message, by telephone or wire
Send me a postcard, just something to inspire me
Just a memory, forgotten key, a picture drawn when I was two
A handprint made in plaster, a sad face cuz I was blue
Send me a message, by airmail or by train
Send me a letter, to read out in the rain
Only a lullaby, a kiss goodbye, a card I gave on Mother’s Day,
A portrait of my family, I feel so far away
Send me a message, let me know that you still care
Send me reassurance, I hear from you so rare
Just a memory, our family tree, a poem written at age ten
A picture of my kitten, then call me once again
Only a lullaby, a piece of pie, a writing paper graded A
A flower made from tissues, please send them all today
Beauty I’ll Never Forget
The grass is warm
beneath my feet
The rays of sun
supply the heat
A gentle rain
fall on my face
A doe leaps
with perfect grace
A rainbow appears
across the sky
I catch a glimpse
of a buzzing fly
Walking on a trail
covered with leaves
I see flowers sway
from a sudden breeze
As I walk in my house
I really regret
Having to leave the beauty
I'll never forget
My Lover
Your breath caresses my skin like a summer wind
Whispering words of endearment
Your lips quench my thirst yet
Stoke the fire that burns in my soul
Your smile bathes me in its glow
Warming a heart that’s been cold for too long
Your touch sends shivers down my spine
Making me quiver in anticipation
Your eyes capture mine
Penetrating the barrier around my mind
Your love soothes my spirit
Completing me and making me whole
An Innocent’s Lullaby
Sleep
precious darling
close your eyes
Dream
little angel
fantasize
Safe
snuggled warmly
in your bed
You're Mother's love
will cradle your head
Hush
my innocent
sleep tonight
Wake
sweet and beautiful
with morning's light
Seeking Answers
When it’s answers I seek
It’s answers I find
But all of them are tainted
White clothes spilled with red wine
As sickness tries to break me
As thunder breaks the silence
I look for the wisdom
The reasons for the violence
The forces tear my soul
I’m leaving my mind behind
If I close my earthly eyes
And see things with my spirit
The knowledge flows through open pores
The truth is there, I hear it
The voice that fills my soul
There are no words, it can’t be defined
Seek from the lips of he
No word is uttered false
Languidly the truth unfolds
As smoothly as a waltz
The answers are not tainted
And miracles I find
The voice that fills my soul
Clear water becomes red win
Never Goodbye
The cabins are nestled in the trees
like mother hens
You glimpse a seagull on a breeze
a solo flight
The water ripples silently
endlessly in motion
The sand dunes hold their silent plea
waiting for commotion
Squirrels chatter in the eve
birds answer
The sun and it's beauty turn to leave
it sinks into the twilight
Fires are now kindled
and old songs are sung
Til nighttime has dwindled
and up sneaks the sun
The waves crash to the shore
and lull you to sleep
You yawn and say goodnight once more
but never goodbye
The Emptiness That Was You
My hand reaches out
you're not there
to touch your face
caress your hair
to hold you close
but you're gone
from day to night
and dusk to dawn
but my hand still reaches out
to grasp the emptiness
that was you
The Sun Dips Low
The sun dips low
and the winds doth blow
the words of professed love
to distant shores
to lay upon the ears of
innocents who are ignited
by the passions of the
ancients and profess their
love so that it may
be carried for
