ALONE

He walked away into the night, spiders crawling in his blood
He was shivering in the heat and his hair turned into mud
Alone, he was alone
When he was far from them all, he slept by the side of the road
He heard words from whipped mouths, he saw a king eating a toad
He saw dragons and maggots, he heard choirs and gunshots
Alone, he was alone
He leaned to the side of the mountain
Slept till he woke from an electric shock
He fled from his dreams and hid in a cave among icicles
He chose silence and slowly turned into a rock

THE NICE LOT

They're supporters of the good things
They keep struggling to be somewhere
Hoping for a better future
They adjust themselves to fit
Always trying for the children
With their nervous human kindness
Chopping off the incorrections
Bit by inch by inch by bit
And when their minds have gone astray
They flog themselves with righteousness
A-waiting for more lovely songs
That shine and twitch and slip away
And kiss your night and save your day
And for candyfloss thongs

They're supporters of the good things
They've filed their receipts for moral
They keep searching for a wonder
In the supermarket light
Working without knowing why, and
Doing their duty at elections
Paying, staying and agreeing
Hoping power must be right
Celebrating their oppression
Writing capital in fat type
Saved by war and zero tolerance
Sleeping with their fright
And they rake the garden path
And they plant the apple tree
And they make the tram in time
And they put their minds to death
And they watch the traffic lights
And they cut out nasty bits
And they keep the atoms clean
And calibrate the world

THE HOUSE ON THE HILL

Do you have any expectations?
Are you waiting for something to come?
Are you living on borrowed patience?
Can you hear the roll of the drum?
Gonna kickstart yourself and get going
Gonna run away with the till
Gonna gnaw your leg off to get out of the trap
Gonna reach that house on the hill
Have you looked at yourself, have you looked at the world?
Can you tell yourself things will change?
Can you bear the things that you witness?
Do you think life is still in your range?
Gonna make life come true some day
Gonna give yourself quite a thrill
Gonna melt away in the northern lights
Gonna reach that house on the hill

Can you make up a scheme to take with you?
Can you nourish what you need to stay?
Will you break down under verity?
Are you gonna live day by day?
And find yourself and find a way
And tell the lies and not be swayed
And make a plan and stick around
And see the world and not break down
And make up a scheme to take with you
And nourish what you need to stay?
Gonna be you in a far-off place
Gonna wipe away the blood that they spill
Gonna kickstart yourself and get going
Gonna reach that house on the hill
Gonna kickstart yourself and get going
Gonna run away with the till
Gonna gnaw your leg off to get out of the trap
Gonna reach that house on the hill

DIE YOUR OWN WAY

You give and you lose, you plan and get high
Weigh your value, calculate, pray
And you'll die your own way
You caress napalm burns, smile at a photo
Get lost in faked pain, it's a play
And you'll die your own way

Pretend you're someone, close the door
Hug yourself and buy some more
It is true but it ain't real
Where have you gone, why can't you feel?

You walk on the pavement, sleep on a razor
Ride on the night and catch up with the day
And you'll die your own way
You'll keep your mouth shut but nail on your smile
Drink defeat, lose the reason to stay
And you'll die your own way
