THE LOTUS SEEKERS

Trees shiver and are ashamed, nude as beggars.
They were proud of the yellows and reds of autumn.
They laughed at the denim blue the sky wore.
But, there is beauty in patchwork crystal patterns
Laid out by skaters and by moonlight
On a frozen, winter pond.

Dreams make a lovely lie when you are near
To life, and love, and hope, but, then
A man pleads from a nearby street in fear.
The sound drowns dreams in earthy hue and din
With a shot that cracks, then burns a silent path
To rouse again that plaintive, aching cry of pain.

New cries fall mute on those who wonder, but cower
When dreams and dreamers seek the lotus bower.
New hope arises with the dawn of forgotten sounds.
Those who seek their dreams kneel and pray
That diversions tearing at nerve and drive
Will not keep them from the road that makes them alive.

IF I WERE YOU
If I were you, and you were me
I wonder, then, would we see?
What I do to you, I do to me.
Would it all seem very clear?
What is there, is also here.
If the beauty of a tree
Fills my soul, is it me?
Love of you, love of me,
Human, God, deer, or sea
Embrace them all, they are Me.

UNITY

Come women all, rise up and sing.
Surround the world with love.
Caress your children, hold them tight
To make this world a gentler place to live.

Arise, arise, our time has come.
The world awaits a bright, new day.
Come sisters, join your hearts as one.
Our fears can never hold us back again.

We rock our children and ourselves.
We must not stop before the flow
Of truth and peace unites us all.
Our voices are as one throughout the world.

THE VOID

Shining in the sun
The sea talks to me.
Line of mast, powder blue,
Cotton sky and white of wave,
Light wind, soft curve of sail,
Wet cheek, pink shoulders
Reflect the battle and survival.

Hope, dreams, fears, and fire
Hope for wind, fear of storm
Alone and all together.

What lies ahead, unknown
The blackness falls at night
The stars will guide my way
My destiny awaits me.

STAND TALL

I lay across my bed to dream.
Amber evening spread her beams.
Soft light at dusk, the setting sun
Piercing through the curtains hung
Across the snowy window pane.

A smiling face can keep me free.
I hide from you, but not from me.
When I think of things long past
A smile or laughter doesn't last.
I feel embarrassed with chagrin.
I made mistakes I called a sin.
Our life is short, we all must fall.
Arise, get up again, stand tall.

FARTHER

My father and I don't speak
We haven't for many years.
My heart breaks to think that we
Can't find a way to love again.
I'm sure his heart aches, too.
Where did we lose our way?
How did we grow so far apart?
I guess I really know.
Mom's death ripped us apart
So far that God can't bring us
Back together again.
A new wife, a new life.
Bitter words and memories.
And family animosities.
I'm afraid that one day he'll
Be gone from this world to the next.
Never knowing that I love him still.
When I meet him in heaven
Will he greet me, or will he turn
Away, both fearing and leaving
Tears in our hearts forever.

THE WIND

Flying high like an eagle;
Running hard like a jackal.
My head swims a little.
My life seems a riddle.
How I love finding rapture.
Guess it's going to be that way.
But, now and then,
I slow down
And I glide
On the wind

ONE WITH THE EARTH

I drove along a ribbon of highway.
The beauty of the sunset made me cry.
Like a miracle, I was the foothills
That whipped past my sight along the road
I was both at once, myself driving
And the foothills in the misty distance.
It was a feeling like no other;
The trees and shrubs grew upon my body.
The sun-lit sky kissed my cheeks tenderly.
The earth and I were one and we were happy.
We felt warm and loving, as we caressed each other
A sense of freedom filled the pregnant air.
My connection to the universe was clear.

THREADS

Tangled threads of pain and sorrow
Wrap around my heart and soul.
Knots choke the breath of life,
Yet the struggle is not done.
Picking up pieces of my life,
Threads of who I am.
Putting them back into place
Weaving a new fabric. I'm not who I was.
The old is woven with the new,
As I move along, back and forth
Recapturing threads.
A new cloth is created.
From Mother earth, my voice within
Visions appear and move me on again.
A new day brings the light
Joy fills me up anew.
Now I see what I must do.
The colors blend With pictures clear
And I begin Again.

SWEET YOUTH

Jordan Loraine, light of my life,
In Sunshine and rain,in a world of strife,
Where money reigns,power's a wife,
And wise men strain to understand.
Delicate flower, sweetness of youth,
Soften the blow and soothe the brow
Of he who would gain the whole world
But sacrifice himself and you.
Till the day comes with sight anew
He embraces the world and you.
