.99 Cents

By William Eldon Bevill

I just spent five dollars

at the .99 cent store

I am infatuated with the $.99 cent store

no, I am freaking infatuated with the .99 cent store!

I have never had more quality time in my life than at this place

It is utopia

around me, surrounding me

are $.99 cent items

everywhere

tools

toys

books

kitchen gadgets

candy bars?

Dear lord, I can buy everything here!

I fell in love with a girl at the $.99 cent store

fell in love with her today without a discount sale to be found

I will go home and I will cry over her and watch Donahue

and air out my shoes

she's so pretty and she sells things that cost only $.99 cents

destiny is going to happen and she doesn't even know it

since she's ringing up patron's at the cash register at a buck an item

someone just bought lipstick, band aids, fertilizer, a trash can, bleach and imitation cologne of Elizabeth Taylor

and my god! They only paid $.99 cents for each.
With broom in hand, two packages of gummy bears, an air freshener and plastic flowers

I approach the girl of my dreams, the penny pincher, the discount queen of the world

with dollar bills held firmly in hand

those which I spared from spending at the stripper show last night

I will firmly thrust them into her brittle white trash fingers

she is all my mine

we will have fun tonight

for just $2.99
