Preface-
Dusk has fallen; a Soldier gone to war is fatally wounded. While back at his birthplace a mother still remembers him as a child and believes that someday he would return to her (unknowing that he is soon to die) just as he used to return home after long hours of play in his childhood. She yearns to see him one last time before life slides away like sand underneath her feet and urges the child to return home as if he is still out in the fields(May be for one last time).
My poem is a conversation not between two people, but between two hearts. An urging mother and a son gasping his last breath on the battle field.
MOTHER:
“The tethered day is whiling away..
With a stick of faith... Has wandered astray..
Through the silky meadows and amidst the dusk
Where the fences end.. In the shady husk..
With hope in her heart at the entrance gates..
Wailing in solace.. a Mother awaits..
Come my child, halt your play..
Let the game be, it’s high time today..
With a mellow breeze, the sun closed its brow..
Yet I long for you; in our shallowly burrow..
In your absence O young one..
This mind meets no peace..
Have you no care; for your mother’s grieves..
My arms are longing; to cradle you a rhyme..
To hug you tight; for one last time..
Come my child...Come running to me..
Rid me of tears and set me free...”
CHILD:
“Mother O Mother, I am no far..
I ain’t no away.. Like the twinkly star..
Our hearts are one; with a single breath..
For life without you was a sneering death..
Of all natures beauties, The honey, the dew..
The greatest of element,
My MOTHER... it’s you...
My soul, my spirit..My smile, my sight...
My very existence is your right...
But now..
It gets dark and my sight goes blur...
I hear no words, I sense no more...
“Alas...Child!! Death is upon thee..
Fate has surrendered; your life to ME...”
With a triumphant gesture the Almighty spelled...
“My life is my mother…”
Nay!!-O Lord, your DEATH HAS FAILED...
