Chapter 1

As the cold waves cracked against the shore Tayca’s heat began to race. He had left life and home behind everything except his cold memories. Now running across the cold, damp sand with a bag for his things he knew he had no choice.

His working days were over, No more lugging carts of brick, No more back breaking walking 5 miles for water he was finished. As he heard the sirens and dogs chasing him down, he had no choice but to keep running. The sound of splashing footsteps and the sight of flickering torches in the distance was more than enough to make a man to fall apart. And yet being only fifth teen years old himself he knew that wasn’t an option.

Chapter 2

The harbor his only home for now. As he clamped down onto the soft smooth rocks – well rounded with the splashing waves- he knew that the dogs had stopped chasing him. As he looked around he knew that he was not alone. There were other children under the boards. The small glimpse of big cold eyes seemed to stare right into his soul.
A small boy seemed familiar his cold dirty blond hair and green eyes, he could of sworn he had seen him before. The small boy slowly crawled up to Tayca and began to place his small grubby hand on Tayca’s face “Kalama” he said softly. Then the other children approached him. “I am Jiloma” he said. A sudden flash of astonishment rushed through Tayca his own brother!!!

Chapter 3

“I thought you were dead” said Tayca
“I thought you were dead!” exclaimed Kalama “I ran away some time ago with Lummie”
“Who is Lummie?” asked Tayca
Suddenly a small, beautiful, young girl arose from the shadows.Tayca was stunned, his brother was older than him- eighteen in fact - so it was no wonder he had a girlfriend. He stared into her deep blue eyes as she blushed and shied away a bit. “Were going to Canada, to start a family” said Kalama “where are you going?”
“I don’t know” said Tayca “ but now that you’ve mentioned it I might go to Canada too.

Chapter 4

The ferry came at 05:00 Lummie and Kalama were ready and awake.
“we need to sneak aboard” said Kalama.
he looked swiftly back and forward then gave the signal. they scurried aboard and hid with other imigrants. The voyage was long and tough but after 3 days on a cold drafty ferry with nothing to eat they finally landed on Canada. Tayca stared at the mases of corn ans rivers surounding him. They ran off into the small hut abandoned by the habour. It was small dark and smelly inside but it was home for now. he slept on the rough side of and old matress and lummie and kalama slept on the floor near the fire. A small crack in the boarded up window let a shimmer of moonlight in. He followed the light to the end of the room were it hit a small box in the corne of the room. he slowly stood up being carefull not to wake the others. He bent down and wiped the dust of the lock. He read the initials B.G . he paused for a second tha raised the box up, sat on the bed and placed it on his lap. He openedd it up and found mant documents and some photos. The most amazing thing he found was an old diary. He opened it and read the first entry:
