I can feel a strong pull towards the burning building and even though I know Andrew cannot possibly be inside, I can feel his presence inside. The fumes make me choke slightly, as I enter the building through a narrow opening where a wooden door used to be. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest as dread slowly rises inside my heart like a pungent fluid, ready to burst out with a violent spurt.
"Andrew?" I call out, trudging through the blackened leftovers of what used to be a motel. Fire is his element. Andrew can only be killed with fire. And as long I live, I will not let that happen. Looking around, I'm glad that I'm at a safe distance from the relentless flames. I have absolutely no memory of the fire starting up because of that room I was locked up in. The sour taste of betrayal stirs my brain towards determination. Andrew cannot die. He has to know what happened. . Besides, he can't die because of me.
"ANDREW!" I call out yet again as I stumble through the ravaged remains, breathing in the heavy smoke bellowing from the building burning all around me. The pull takes me somewhere directly within the area where the flames lick the wooden walls like a serpent and I gear myself up for the worst. If this is it, I'm not going to let Andrew die. If I'm the keeper of his soul for real, there is nothing else I'd rather do.
"Andrew?" I call out louder, taking a deep breath as I enter into the heavy black smoke. I can't see anything but I can feel him nearby.
"Where are you?!" I call out yet again, choking on the smoke as I cough violently. Moving faster towards where he is, I frantically call his name out repeatedly, until I hear something similar to a whimper not far from where I am. Looking around, all I see is smoke, unsure of where the nearest exit is, I grope around, until I finally feel my fingers close in on a set of hands.
"Andrew." I smile, in spite of my growing fear that I won't be able to save him. With a jolt, I realise that it wasn't a whimper I'd heard earlier. It was something else- the sound of a heavy metallic thing. I hear it fall inches from where I am with a heavy groan and I shriek as loud as I ever have. What the hell do I do now?
I don't know how but I manage to drag Andrew by the hands to the clearer side of the ravaged building, even as I have trouble breathing. My vision is speckled with tiny spots of white but I manage to see through the smoke, blowing in the opposite direction from my face and I find a narrow hole in a crumbling wooden wall, completely covered in flames. If only I can push him out through it...
"C'mon." I suck in a large amount of the pungent air available, and I drag Andrew harder, using all my fading strength. Just a few steps more and I feel my knees buckle beneath my body, feeling eerily light headed and dizzy. Using my remaining strength, I crawl up to the hole in the wall and grabbing a fist full of Andrew's clothes, I pull him up to me. A sharp burning sensation rises up my back and I want to scream in pain but I realise I'm far too weak for that. Mustering up all I have left, knowing that this is probably the last thing I'll ever do, I use both my hands and legs and push him through the hole. My head hits the ground and my vision is blackening at the edges but I'm glad I could save Andrew. If saving him was the last thing I could do, I'm dying a happy girl. I find the pain at my back fade away slightly, bit by bit and I know I'm ready to go. This is the end, it must be...
Dear reader,
This is my very first draft and it undoubtably contains a lot of errors and such, please sympathise with that and cut me some slack as far as that is concerned. Feel free to comment and suggest any ways to improve. c:
Much love,
Ojal.
