From The Beginning

The last thing that I wanted was to watch this town burn, again. And I found it odd that the only thing that wasn't burning was the house that I had built so many years ago. Sure, it was separated from everyone else's, but I figured it would have been torched by the people by now. And I was certain that the Hunters that set this place on fire the first time were looking for me. They always were. No matter what year, no matter where I went, the same family of Hunters tried their hardest to kill me. Destroying town after town, just to kill the son of the evil, dreaded, king of Vampires. Little did they know that I had more power than my horrid father, and little did I know, they used their daughter as bait against me. This isn't some story about a young vampire who fell in love with an emotionless human, Ayleen had life, a light that drew this moth to her flame. Her love of life made my life worth living. If you could call it that.

This beautiful, fairy-tale creature caught me off guard, long, beautiful dark curly hair, big blue eyes that could make even the ocean jealous, a smile that was brighter than the sun. She betrayed me to her father and had got me caught by him. Luckily for me, I escaped. But the family didn't. The second fire was an accident. A tiny little town in France called St. Malo has been my home for centuries, I have always come back after I left for a while, after the threat was taken care of. My father never understood why I would stay in France, he never understood me, nor was he there to raise me. France has always felt like home to me. The sea, the buildings, the underground tunnels, what's not to love about France? Besides politics. But I don't think we should talk about that right now.

There are beautiful women, beautiful cities, and amazing food.

But no amount of women and food will make me feel better after what I did. It still haunts me, even to this day.

The look on her face from that night is burnt into my mind and I can't stop thinking about it. I have to keep reminding myself that she was the one who betrayed me. I should have known that her intentions weren't pure. But here I am, sitting on my front porch all alone, I keep feeling like someone is watching me, and I start to get uncomfortable. I remember the day I first met her. The sky was grey, about to snow. It was cold, but I couldn't tell. I wore a jacket because I didn't want people to think I was weird or something. I saw this beautiful woman just standing by herself. She was looking at a necklace one of the townspeople made. It was a blue necklace, blue diamonds in different shapes, the chain would have barely gone past her color bone. Of course, I thought it would look great on her. I could see her face in the reflection of the window and her eyes were so blue, they stood out over the diamonds.

I went into the store and told the merchant that I wanted to buy that necklace. I got it and walked outside with it, she watched the whole thing. When I walked out of the store she smiled at me and started to walk away. "Madam," I chased after her, she turned around. "You do know that it is a blue diamond, rare to come by one that isn't dyed, right?" She nodded. "And yet you still got it." She smiled again, making me feel like I'm melting. I pulled it out of the box and lifted it to her. "I thought that the ocean blue was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen until I saw your eyes with this necklace. So I thought you should have it."
I saw her again after that, with her family. And that was how I found out that she was a Hunter. Her father was a very well known hunter among my kind, he's got a body count that would put Ted Bundy to shame. Her father knew who I was. And when she ran to me saying: "Father, this is the generous man who bought me this beautiful necklace." She smiled, her finger tracing the chain on her neck, and when her father turned to look at me, he had this look on his face. And to this very day, I have never felt my heart sink so quickly.

"Go home, Ayleen." Oliver, her father, pointed in the direction of where they lived, then he looked at me. "If I find out you laid a hand on my daughter, I will kill you." His wife stepped in now. "Oliver, he was just being a gentleman, why don't you just stop this madness." Oliver turned to his wife. "Anne, I will have a discussion about this with you later. As for you young lady, give the man the necklace back. Then go home." Oliver held out his hand, and Ayleen put the necklace in his hand. Oliver walked it over to me and put it in my pocket. "Your father has done enough damage to my family. I don't want you're kind around my daughter." He whispered to me.

"Oh, trust me. None of them will touch her." I said back to him. Oliver shook his head angrily. "I don't need your protection, either."

They all walked away, The beautiful girl whos name is Ayleen looked back at me for a second before her father dragged her off. I looked at the necklace in my hand. Her eyes gleamed just as those diamonds did. I only hoped that I could see her again before I leave in 2 days. But her Father will prevent that. I looked up and the setting sun. What gave me away? My ring? I've never seen him before. Any of their family, to be correct. I've never been around my father. My mother always tried to get him to see me. and he never tried. I don't know his affairs, I don't know his schedule. So how did he know me?
