Catch Me If You Can

Chapter 1:
Dear Diary,
Today’s the day. I’m finally movin out. Today’s the day I get to move on with my own life. No more over protective parents. Ha! I’m so excited I can barely breathe. But more than escaping from my parents everybody knows this trip is all about hiding from love. Ha-ha imagine me being in love its so… I guess the only word to describe it is… unbelievable.
Love,
Edaline (Eddie) Damiena Lombardi

Eddie got up out of her small bed and looked at herself in her mirror. This was what a girl that was moving out looked liked. She went to the bathroom and took a cold shower in her bathroom that was still graced with a zoo shower curtain after 19 years. She blow dried her hair not even bothering straightening her hair. She was beginning a new life; she needed a new look to go with it. She went to her mirror and fixed her eyeliner above her eyelids and lightly patted on some new foundation. She smiled. Her new look causing a totally new effect on her. Instead of looking quiet and shy she looked like trouble with a slice of sass. She laughed and walked out her bedroom door. She walked into the kitchen where her mother sat at their dinner table in utter silence. She looked up when she heard Eddie walk in but still sat there in silence staring at her.
“Mom, what’s wrong with you today?” Eddie asked worried if her mother’s health was acting up. Her mother just sighed and took a sip of her coffee. “Seriously mom, what’s wrong are you in pain again today.”
“Oh no sweetie I’m feeling very well today I’m just worrying as usual.” Her mom whispered on the verge of tears. “Are you sure you’ll be okay on your own?”
“Don’t worry so much mom I’ll be fine, oh and make sure you call my sell if you get any news on your cancer.” Eddie assured her. “Where’s dad I thought he was going to work later so we could all say goodbye?”
“I’m sorry honey I don’t think your dad wanted you to go. I think he thinks it will be easier if he doesn’t see you go.” Her mother admitted.
“Oh… okay when he comes home tell him I love him tons and I’ll be home for the holidays.” Eddie kissed her mother on the cheek gave her a big hug and ran out the door.
She jumped in her graduation present, a new black jeep wrangler complete with both doors taken off. She started the car and drove off not looking back the wind ripping at her strawberry blonde hair. She drove for hours till she made it to New York City. The traffic in the city was horrible she sat for hours until her stomach started growling and she knew she should stop for food. She spotted a little pizzeria on the corner of the street that didn’t look to crowded and pulled into a spot and parked. She jumped out of the wrangler and weaved her way through the people on the sidewalk to the pizzeria’s door.
“Excuse me?” she yelled through the quiet room. The kitchen was empty and she was beginning to wonder if the pizzeria was even open.
“Yeah hold on I’ll be there in a sec.” called an irritated voice from the back. Eddie took a set at a somewhat clean table and waited about ten minutes before a boy about her age walked out through the back room. “Yeah how can I help you?” he asked irritation still in his eyes.
“You are open right?” Eddie questioned a little uncertain. At this the boy blasted out in honest laughter.
“Of course were open. Didn’t you see the glowing sign by the door that says “open”?” He gasped between his laughter.
“Well then I’ll get a Brooklyn salad,” she said studying the paper menu, “and a diet coke.” Still blushing from her stupidity she went and sat down after paying. While she waited for the boy to fix her salad she took her ring off and played with it. When he walked out she sat it on the table her focus drawn to the food in front of her. He sat down her food on the table and sat at the seat across from her.
“Hey that’s a pretty ring.” He said reaching for Eddies ring on the table.
“Don’t touch it!” she screeched jumping up and knocking the ring to the floor. The boy stared at Eddie his hand still outstretched on the table.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to startle you I just wanted to look at it. Here enjoy your food I’ll find it I’m sure it slid by the counter.” He stood up his eyes scanning the floor.
“No. I can find it” she whispered. The boy raised an eyebrow. In the end they both ended up searching for the ring.

“By the way my names Shiloh, nice to meet you.” He greeted her beaming at Eddie. She smiled back.
“My names Edaline, but you can call me Eddie.” She kept on grinning, and then went back to searching for the ring. They searched for about another three minutes till Shiloh exclaimed.
“There it is.” Eddie looked and saw it right under the table they were sitting at. Both Eddie and Shiloh lunged for the ring both trying to claim victory for finding it. Their fingers brushed as they came down on the ring. Eddie came up victorious looking down at a confused Shiloh. “Edaline…” he asked in a daze.
“Yep that’s my name.” Eddie answered still gloating about getting the ring first. She looked up at the clock mounted behind the pay counter. “Oh goodness I need to get a move on.” She exclaimed. “I was hoping to get to New Hampshire by tonight, but that won’t be possible since it’s already three. Bye Shiloh I had fun searching for my ring with you, and thanks for the food it was awesome.” After saying goodbye Eddie ran out into her wrangler and headed of towards New Hampshire leaving a dumbfounded Shiloh sitting on the ground.

Chapter 2:
Dear Diary,
My journey has begun. I’ve made it through New York City (meeting a really nice guy there), and will reach New Hampshire early to noon tomorrow. However I’m worried about that guy I met in New York City cause when I left He didn’t move or say goodbye, he just sat on the floor and had a really, I mean really far away look in his eyes. Its no use worrying about now he’ll be fine, and something like this will not make me turn around this is my trip. I’m sticking to it. I’ll keep moving forward.

(A Few Days Later)
Eddie had made it to her destination. She had made it to Eastport, Maine. This was where she planned to live. She wasn’t a girl that needed to go to college. Her plan was to find a cheap apartment. Get a job as a cashier. And live her life as a normal person.
Eddie parked her car at a local park. She decided she was spending the night in her car and would look for an apartment tomorrow. Eddie looked out through the trees and saw a lone light shinning in the distance. She watched the light until it abruptly went out followed by a blood curdling scream. Worried Eddie jumped out of her car and raced into the woods hoping whoever had screamed was just spooked because of their own shadow.
