staring at my belt on my dress. I couldn’t really find anything else to stare at. I could’ve look into his eyes, or maybe looked at my ring that safely hugged my finger. But I couldn’t move my eyes, even if I wanted to.

“Come on, we can’t be late. Oh, and you look beautiful by the way.” He winked at me through the mirror. I spun in a 180 to face him, and held onto his t-shirt for balance.

“Are you just saying that to make me feel better?"

“Is it working?” he asked, before leaning in for a kiss.

“Well played, chief,” I said, giving him a quick kiss before letting go to grab my silver purse.

“Opted out,” he reminded me. Jake was the Alpha, but he hated the title “chief.” It annoyed himl; "too traditional" he thinks. He didn’t like the idea of being in charge of a whole bunch of people even if he had embraced it all to escape Sam's authority. And considering the sudden fluctuation of new bloods over the last few weeks, Jacob had even more on his plate.

It turns out, after our little vampire encounter, at least ten new bloods showed up on Sam’s front steps. They were all no older than fifteen, and very scared. The first time you phase, it’s extremely painful and terrifying to hear all these other voices in your head of people you don’t know yet. And the physical transformation is hell, learning how to run on all fours, learning how to utilize all your new senses. Learning control, and about your newfound animal instinct. I was highly attentive when Jake told me all about this kind of stuff. I was a good student, and he was an exceptional teacher. After the Volturi’s “visit” seven years ago, the new bloods that had transformed back then were sent free of Washington to persue what they want. We all assumed we had enough manpower for a minimal vampire region; nature thought us wrong. However, the newer bloods that scattered did form a second pack. They moved north, far north into Canada, all with small families in a tiny town nobody's ever been to. Strangely enough, the pack was actually about fifty miles from Denali. So our cousins had even more in common with us then previously. If I’m correct in my memory, about eight or nine made up the pack in Denali. Our cousins were tolerant, since the wolves were there to back us up on one of the darkest days of vampire history. But these new bloods, here in La Push, are here to stay. Their families are here, and these new bloods are too young to up and move territories.
