No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t find it. She looked up,
she looked down. She looked everywhere, yet it managed to remain
elusive despite all of her searching. She was growing frantic, and
started running around the house in a panic. She just had to find it.
She would be in so much trouble if she didn’t. Why couldn’t she find
it? She needed it. After all, you do not receive a gift like that from
someone every day. Sure, it may be a bit of a strange for her
boyfriend to give her, but it meant the world to her nonetheless. She
had to find it. It was essential.
She could not do anything else until
she found it. Besides, if someone else finds it before her, especially
if it was one of her parents that found it, she would be in some major
trouble. It’s not just something you can explain away after all.
Suddenly, the girl stopped in her tracks. She went completely still
and silent. Then she heard the sound that had gotten her attention the
first time. A soft slithering noise, like something being dragged
across the carpet came from the next room. Could it be? Then, the
worst thing imaginable happened.
Her mother walked into the next room. It was obviously her mother
as her mother’s high heels made a distinct noise, even on the carpet,
as the carpets in their house were thin and worn down from decades of use.
Then, silence. She heard her mother gasp, and then the most horrible scream
came from the other room. The girl knew then that she had found it, but her
mom had found it first.
She rushed in and saw the sight she had hoped never to see. Her mother
had discovered her present from her boyfriend. A boa constrictor. The
snake just lay there in the beam of sunlight he had delightfully
discovered, completely unaware of his surroundings. However, even he
couldn’t ignore a scream that loud. Off he slithered, toward the door,
which someone had left open to ventilate the house, as it was a nice
spring day. Ignoring the girls cries, the snake slithered away and
into the surrounding woods. To this day, the snake can often be found
sunning himself on a rock whenever the weather is nice. He finally
felt free, and remembered the escapades he had made to escape. It all
worked out perfectly… although he did regret not having done something
for the girl so she would not be so lonely without him, but, what
could he have done? He was only a snake after all. Besides… he was
free.
