The City

The smell of the City cannot be duplicated: a mix of people, automobiles, and a dash of scent drifting from the nearest food vendor. The sidewalks are veins of pulsing people, endlessly moving in a mass of chaos to form order. By the night, the City sparkles in the artificial lights that do not seem to have a source. The summer air cools and the mild breeze makes a walk into a dream. I have traveled but no other place animates my soul in the same fashion as this hub of the world. It is the Center of the Universe.

The Storm

The wind blew the rain horizontally, hammering the windows at speeds as fast as a hurricane. A thunderous crack declares another tree limb had been felled. The family, only the three of us, kept a vigil of the weather until the television and lights blink out of existence. Together we huddled close to the small flames of the candles. No one can sleep; just blankly stare at the darkness outside. We can do nothing at the moment, only imagine what tomorrow will bring, what we might face, beyond these safe walls.
Still, the storm rages. The night spans great lengths.

The Show

Ticket in hand, band merchandise on, I descended the stairs of the concert bowl brimming with excitement. The long walk would be worth it; front row seats! The stage is just there, so close!
The lights dimmed. The crowd roared as one. The show began.
Three hours of shredding, rocking awesomeness: expensive. Memories to cherish for a lifetime: priceless.
By the end my ears ring, my eyes ache from the stage lights, but I could dance on the air if you asked. I will not sleep anytime soon, yet I am both wired and exhausted. It was a great night.
