Love is painfully beautiful. It’s virtually uncontrollable, and no one but you can feel what you’re feeling. A lot of people feel as though they can control their feelings. Keeping them locked behind a door or hidden away isn’t controlling them. It’s hiding the problem you have with said feelings. Guilty, most of you are. But let me tell you a story about a beautifully painful love.
She cries as she holds her husband close, sending him away is the worst thing they could do to the couple. He stands tall in his U.S. Marine uniform, holding the back of her head. Quietly reminding her that he’ll be home soon, reminding her that he will be back for when their child is born.
The days turned to weeks and weeks to months. She still had not forgotten about her love. Somewhere in the world fighting for her freedom she wonders if he ever stops to think about her and their baby. In a short amount of time the baby girl will be brought into this world.
The days here are hell; the nights aren’t any better. All that keeps him going is his wife back home with a baby that he doesn’t know is born.. A picture in his vest of her first time together, who would’ve guessed their last would be in front of their first.
She’s been counting the days and the hours, waiting for her love to return from the fires. She pleaded and waited for the phone on the wire, a call from another part of the world. She hasn’t been eating or keeping herself going. Her stomach is too sick and full of worry. Yet she has a baby girl to take care of.
The phone finally rings, she’s almost in tears as she picks it up. Who would’ve known, her love was on the other end. He was coming home in three days time. Just then there was a sudden band. The last words she heard were over the phone as her love whispers in a voice almost silent, “I love you, I’m here because I love you enough to die for you. To keep you safe. To keep your freedom.” She fell to her knees sobbing, the tears ran down her face. This shouldn’t be their final moment, the picture still in his vest close to his heart. One hand on his heart, one thought on his mind, then one loud, final crash broke them apart. Her baby girl starts crying with her mother, no father or husband to be around anymore.
The body had been found, the picture still intact in the vest was handed to the wife. His love, her cheeks still tear stained, holding her baby girl takes the picture and turns it over in her hands as tears still run down her face. She saw writing on the back of the picture, his scribbled penmanship read: Who would’ve guessed our last time would be in front of our first. After this day there is a little girl without a father, a wife without a husband, and a country with one less soldier.
