Long Lost

Many years ago a young princess, called Viola, was taken from her family by her evil stepmother and her brother, who had just before that killed her father, the King. This had all occurred in a big affair causing the deaths of many soldiers and townspeople. Viola was then taken through very dark forests and past an extremely unpleasant lake that is only known as the lake of grief. It took them numerous days to get to the, now Queen’s, palace where Viola was then thrown into a filthy dungeon to rot, only surviving on small scraps and bones.

Viola’s best friend and childhood target of affection was going on with his life as normal, Pieter still had the occasional nightmare of the horrific experience that took place many years ago. But lately the nightmares have been striking more often.

Viola, now just turning 18 today, sat on the ground with a cake she had drawn in the dust, she blew out the candles. But as she blew she saw a sparkle in the light coming from under the bed she laid down further to see what it was. As she crawled under the bed more she saw it was a nail stuck into the wall, she reached out to pull it out but it would not budge. So she reached out and grabbed it with both hands pulling as hard as she could, pushing against the side of the bed with her foot, for more force. As she pulled the bent old rusted nail gave way and Viola went flying to the ground, when she got up and dusted herself off she could hear footsteps coming down the stairs. She quickly ran on to the bed shoved her hand and nail under her pillow and pretended to be sleeping.

She heard the creek of the cell door opening and footsteps creeping closer and closer. She could feel the press of a body sitting next to her. She turned her head, as if she had just woken. It was Clause, her evil stepmother's creepy younger brother. He looked at her, in a way that made her feel very uncomfortable, and he leant into her. She let him lean in closer and closer when he was close enough she grabbed him in one arm and with the other she pulled the rusted old nail out from under the pillow and she scratched is face with it while pushing him down. She grabbed his keys ran out and locked him in.

He was shouting so loud it was only a matter of time before someone found him down there. So she ran as fast as she could stumbling over steps. When she got to the top she could see guards everywhere, but her adrenaline was pumping, and she just ran. It took the guards by such surprise it took them a minute to realise what’s going on. When they realised it was Viola they went charging after her, but Viola didn’t seem to care this was the first time she had been out of that horrible dungeon in eight years.

But she then realised there was nowhere else she could go, all the exits were crowded with guards she would never get through and a sea of guards were gaining on her. She didn’t know what to do, stress was starting to set in, she couldn’t go to all that trouble to escape and then be caught again. She looked around for help and suddenly a drain caught her eye. She ran straight to the drain and slipped right through the hole into dirty sewage water but she didn’t care she was free!

She knew she was safe now, she followed the pipe to the very end. It lead to the ocean, Viola was a relieved she had thought ever since she jumped in the sewerage pipe that it might not lead outside the castle. Suddenly she could hear a flood of water rushing behind her, the guards were trying to wash her out. Viola started running, but it was no use the water swallowed her up like a thirsty peasant. As she flowed over the spillway, she tried to swim to the surface, desperate for air she pushed through the water as hard as she could. Slowly suffocating she was so close to the surface but suddenly.

There was no need for air, Viola sank slowly to the ocean floor. She did not panic nor was she afraid, a strange but beautiful light suddenly engulfed her. The light was so bright and beautiful. She could hear music like angels and people whispering to her, but she did not see them, she slowly shut her eyes.

Then, without warning, a large wave threw her body onto the shore, landing on her stomach forcing bulks of water out of her stomach. Viola so exhausted fell straight to sleep.

When Viola woke it was morning, she got up straight away afraid that the guards were looking for her and made her way to a small village where she found seven dwarfs who kindly let her have a bow and arrow and one of their horses in exchange for a home cooked meal. She road as far away, through the woods, as she could until the horse could physically not go any further and she decided to rest there for the night.

She woke in the middle of the night to yelling and the sound of horses galloping when she saw whom it was suddenly her blood turned cold, it was Clause and his solders looking for her! She Grabbed her horse and hide behind a bush but her horse would not stop moving. Clause stopped.

“WE MUST HARRY IF WE ARE GOING TO CATCH HER BEFORE SHE GETS BACK TO HER FATHERS OLD KINGDOM!” He roared with anger!

Viola tried to calm her horse down but she just couldn’t.

“Shhh” she kept whispering but he would not settle. Suddenly something in the woods startled him and he reared up and squealed in distress.

Clause heard and yelled “OVER THERE!”

Viola new if she did not run now she would be caught again. She jumped on her horses back road as fast as the horse could go. Clause was gaining on her and she new he was soon going to catch her but she knew exactly what to do. Viola let go of the rains and suddenly not feeling so confident she snatched the bow and arrow, that was attached to the horses saddle, and used one arrow to shoot Clauses horse in the leg. Clauses horse fell straight to the ground and his soldiers came to a Holt. Clause continuously screamed in fury as Viola road away.

By the morning she had made it to town as she stopped for water she asked a man how far away her fathers old kingdom was. The man responded with a nod and a point, his pointed just over the hill as Viola looked she could she it from afar.

“It will take an hour by horse if thou go yarely” The man said.

Viola thanked the man and jumped back on her horse. Viola pushed the horse to it limits for she wanted to be home. When she had made it to the castle gates she called for Pieter and his father, when the guards realised who she was they opened the gates and announced her arrival to royal family.

When Pieter was informed he ran down the castle steps and surrounded Viola in his arms. Pieter could not contain his delight for he believed she was dead, he did not let go Viola nor neither did she.
