The Gas Chamber
By Savannah-Leigh Raymound
I could see my body, I could see it sitting there. The look upon my face was one of pure horror. What did I do to belong here? The door was slowly closed as my frame started struggling from it binds. Slower and slower the seconds ticked. Tick. Tock. Tick. I watched as the door was shut making a rather loud smashing sound. The people standing outside started twisting the nob, slower and slower. Almost dragging on my awaited fate. I watched as my body stopped squirming almost like when a spider knows that its beat. From where I was standing on the outside, I saw the green, foggy gas start to pull in. I could taste it in my mouth, I could feel it clinging to my body, both of them. Then after a few great intakes of the muggy air, my body started to hemorrhage and then a weird floating sensation came. I was no longer outside, no longer in the binds. No, I was floating, each cell of my body tingling, stinging, stabbing. Experiencing pain, pleasure, and confusion all at once.
Then the world came crashing down. I was back outside, staring at the chamber. Staring at the body back inside. That body wasn't me, how could I be so foolish? That was the body of a crazy soul. A crazy soul that was now staring its dead eyes into my spirit. Telling me that I had yet to await this fate. That that was going to be me. I was him. He was me. Together in bound by the same fate.
Lifting my body up off the ground, I moved, not to the chamber but to the people operating it. The could not see me, or they didn't acknowledge me. I rose behind him, a ghostly haunting about my figure. Before I could stop myself, my pale arms slowly pushed the five of them inside with an undesirable strength, almost throwing them inside. I didn't bind them as they had done to my Fate. Instead, I just shut the door, ever so slowly as they battled to get it open. Once they were shut inside, I turned the chamber on. The green gas spilling from the top.
I watched, a sadistic interest on my face as I watched them squirm and wiggle like small insects, as they were. They had done this to countless people, I could see the graves they we were fielded in. Each one with barely a stone cross, none with a name. All nameless souls as these men now were. I felt a smirk twitch at my lips as they finally stopped squirming, the last of them dying from the poison overdose. I didn't bother to shut off the gas. I just let it flow.
I look back into the open eyes of my Fate. Grateful for him showing me this. It was a deadly beautiful type of thing. Demonic and angelic at the same time. Spinning open the lock, I walked into the green shield of escaping gas. Taking a deep inhale and I could feel my body tingle. It was an amazing feeling. I kept breathing, deeply enjoying my current high. I wanted to join the rest of the souls. I wanted to be floating with the clouds. I wanted to join my fate.
