John Calamity: The Reincarnation of the Evil God

“Summon the reincarnation of the evil god, Calamity!” A Goddess wearing a purple flower blouse shouted while being surrounded by a plain of darkness. The only thing visible is the Goddess and a complicated purple magic circle. The Goddess slightly smiled as the magic circle ignited, a wave of purple blasted into the darkness, temporarily filling up space with a different color. Particles started forming on top of the magic circle until an entire human being appeared. The human fell on his butt and looked around, bewildered. He looked to be around twenty with tan skins and a skinny teenager body. He had a green “Celtics” jersey on with black jeans and a pair of blue sneakers.

“U-Uh... ” The human male stuttered. He looked around again, but couldn’t see anything past the darkness. “W-Where a-am I-I-I?” He said as he looked up at the Goddess.

“Welcome, I am the Goddess of Darkness, Cask.” Cask introduced herself, not bowing to him or showing any expression aside from a small smile.

“W-Where… where am I?” He asked.

“My Master calls it the ‘Twilight Zone’; you’re on the surface,” Cask responded, turning her back to him. “What is your name?”

“N-Name?” He muttered. He looked at his hands and noticed that they were shaking. He raised his hands to his head and caressed his hair. “John.”

“John?” She asked, her voice not breaking past a whisper. She turned around to face John, who nodded to answer her question. “Do you remember anything else?”

“Uh… “ He started before his voice trailed off. “I… don’t.”

“Perfect,” Cask muttered under her breath. She motioned for him to stand up; he did so. “You’ve been summoned to undergo a task.”

“A task? Am I to become a hero?” He shouted, his eyes sparkling.

He’s going to be the evil god, but I cannot allow him to decline my offer or else Master will be disappointed in me, Cash thought. “Yes, and because you don’t remember your past, I will grant you the name of John Calamity.” She declared.

“John Calamity? Isn’t a calamity a bad thing?” John asked. Cask shook her head.

“What you will be doing won't be a bad thing. I’m sending you to a world where you’ll be a hero, protecting the unfortunate and weak from the strong.” She said, pushing a smile out. She faced John for two moments more than comfortable with the unnerving smile that pierced John’s mind. John shook off the bad vibe he was receiving from her, enjoying the idea of becoming a hero. Cask noticed his fantasies beginning and decided to prey on that while licking her lips. “I will send you to the world instantly… if you choose to… “ She said, influencing his mind. John nodded his head and declared that he wanted to be in the world. Cask smirked at his declaration before nodding and beginning her chants. She finished her chants within a minute with another purple magic circle appearing under John.

“Wait! What’s my mission? Is it to save the world or to defeat the demon lord?” John asked from within the boundaries of the magic circle. Cask smirked before licking her lips, sending chills down his spine.

Cask stared at him with hungry eyes. “To survive,” she remarked before a wave of purple light erupted with John being teleported away from the zone. Cask watched as every particle of his body disintegrated, leaving nothing behind. “Tsk, tsk, tsk.” She muttered as she looked around the Twilight Zone. She heard a voice from the darkness.

“Cask, I need you.” A familiar voice shouted.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk,” Cask muttered before smirking. “Somebody is calling me, I see.” She said before disappearing into the darkness.

John woke up on a dirt road surrounded by trees, pressed against a mixture of gravel and dirt. He stood up from his spot and looked around the area, seeing nothing else aside from trees. He did notice that the dirt path led in two opposite directions; one heading south while the other headed north. “What do I do now?” He asked out loud. “And do I have any skills?” He shouted at the heavens but received no response. He threw his hands down and shook his head. He decided to go north on the path, moving through the trees that lined the road. John continued to go down the path, seeing birds flying around him. He then made it to a clearing where a village sat at. John smiled as he dashed towards the village, not noticing the fires. Once at the village, he looked around and noticed men dressed in leather armor wielding a variety of weapons from longswords to battle axes, spread across the village, sparking fires in houses they ravaged and capturing all of the women. Men were being killed in the dozens while the children were captured and taken away. “What’s happening?” He asked out loud. One of the men noticed John and pointed his weapon at him. The man charged at John, who turned tail and ran in the opposite direction. “Goddess! Cask! I need help!” He shouted towards the heavens. He peeked around his shoulder and noticed that the man was closing the distance. He closed his eyes and continued shouting at the heavens. “Cask! Goddess! I’m about to die! You never gave me a weapon!”

Next to him appeared Cask, floating above the ground and lying on her side. John looked to his right and noticed her. “Cask, I need your-” He started before Cask raised her finger and placed it on his lips.

“Your weapon is your will.” She responded in her typical whisper voice.

John looked at her, his eyes glaring at her. “What does that mean? My will won’t stop the guy behind me.” He shouted.

She let out a small smile. “Your imagination will power you.”

“I don’t know what that means!” John shouted. He peeked over his shoulder, seeing that the man was almost onto him. “F-Fireball!” He shouted. Cask smiled and pointed at his right hand. John looked down and noticed that his hand was on fire. He shrieked and stopped running, patting his hands, but he couldn’t extinguish the flames. The man behind him struck John in the chest with his sword. John choked up blood and spit it out on the ground. The man rammed the rest of the sword into his chest, igniting more blood-spitting. John turned towards Cask, who watched with greedy eyes. “Am I gonna die?” He asked her, his eyes tearing up. Cask gave him an unnerving smile without responding to him.

John collapsed to the ground. the man behind him grinning before searching his body. He didn’t find anything of interest before getting up and walking away, leaving John slumped over as his breathing pace grew erratic and unstable. “C-Ca-Cask…” He croaked. Cask looked at his painstaking face and chuckled.

“You need me?” She asked.

“Y-Y-Y-Ye-Yes,” John muttered. Cask smirked and watched him as the light that glowed strongly, slowly became dim. He soon lost his voice and his skin paled up. Cask chuckled softly

“The old John is now dead.” She declared before taking out a wand. She then pointed the wand at John’s corpse. “I will grant you a sub-skill of Ruin. Your determination intertwines with God Destroyer!” She declared, a puff of smoke emitting from the wand and entering John through his chest wound. The wound then began to heal slowly until it fully patched up, leaving no scars. John’s eyes began to brighten while his soul, slowly, made his way back to his body. His heart began to pump as blood circulated through his body,

“W-W-What happened?” John muttered, his eyes lighting a fire. Cask let out a small smile before going over to John’s body and picking his head up, gently placing a kiss on his forehead. She then opened up a portal of black mist behind her. She turned away from John and went to the portal. She looked over her shoulder at him and waved at him.

“Welcome to your second life, John. You will shed any ties to your past and fully embrace your new name. You are John Calamity! The reincarnation of the evil god, Calamity!” Cask declared.

John nodded, standing up. “Yes, I’m John Calamity. The reincarnation of the-” He started before a sudden headache interrupted him. He collapsed to the ground and gripped his head tightly. “Ahhhh!” He shouted aggressively.

“Oh, poor kid. The pressure is getting to his head, I see.” Cask said as she licked her lips. “Let’s hope this reincarnation will last longer than its predecessor.” She then faced the portal and stepped into it, disappearing without a trace. The portal collapsed after Cask disappeared through it. John remained on the ground with a headache that pounded nails into his brain. He thrashed around wildly with no care of consequences. His thrashing, eventually, led to him falling asleep. His eyes slowly dimmed while his muscles retracted and loosened. His breathing grew constant and quiet while his nose emitted a low sound.

John woke up an hour later to a scene of chaos. Bandits locked up women in cages and placed them onto carriages to be shipped away. Carriage after carriage was loaded up before leaving down the same road he took to find the village. The buildings were overpowered by the flames and soon collapsed, changing the once growing village into piles of debris with blood decorating it. Corpses littered the ground; villagers, and bandits of each gender. John stood up and watched the terror as one bandit had his way with a woman. Disgusted, John walked towards them. “I-I-I can’t remember anything… but this kind of scum deserves to die.” John got closer to them and alerted them by muttering to himself loudly. “Scum. Die. Slaughter.” Cask’s words began to pierce through his hollow mind and connect itself to his brain. He stopped right in front of a bandit, who looked John up and down before brandishing his sword and smirking. “God Destroyer,” He muttered under his breath. Fire covered his entire fist, illuminating a small circle around him.

“Hey, kid! Now you’ve seen too much, so we gotta kill you.” The bandit said before striking at John. Fortunately, John was able to dodge the swing and managed to punch the bandit in the stomach with his fire-covered fists. The punch threw the bandit ten feet into the air before gravity got a hold of him, slamming him to the ground. The other bandits took a step back in fear before one gathered his courage and ran at John. The bandit struck John with his sword, but the contact with John’s skin ended up breaking the sword’s blade. The bandit stood dumbfounded as he stared at the hilt. John brought his fist back before throwing it at the bandit’s face. The bandit was thrown back, smashing into a pillar and destroying it. The other bandits snapped their heads towards John, brandishing their weapons and charging towards him; twenty versus one. John’s eyes grew brighter, sparking until flames became to grow. The flames took over his eyes and fists. John charged towards them with his fist prepared, smashing people in the face and throwing them around wildly. John ripped through the crowd, throwing them everywhere and killing a lot of them upon impact. The survivors dropped their weapons and fled from the village with their tails in between their legs. John took a step forward to chase after them, but a voice interrupted him.

“Help!” shouted an elf from one of the two remaining cages. John turned around and looked at the elf. The flames in his eyes and fist slowly dissipated, leaving a sorrowful face behind. “Get me out of here,” She demanded. John nodded slightly and went over to the cage, finding it locked. He turned around and searched the bodies of the bandits until
