"Fading Assets - Respect & Unity" is a tiny discussion on the fact that today a big majority of us, not all of us, have forgotten to give the due respect some of the things that deserve it. We are way too much occupied to ourselves, so much so, that it has reached a hazardous level; in a sense that we don't find anyone better than our own selves. Loss of respect is one of the root causes of short arguments which then become long lasting fights.
Once respect prevails it gives rise to unity & unity gives rise to peace, love & harmony. I hope that you all will enjoy this brief discussion & will agree to what I think.
I would highly appreciate your suggestions, comments & feedback regarding this book.Any useful criticism for making this book better is most welcome. Hope you enjoy it :)
"ADAB PEHLA QAREEENA HAI MOHABBAT K QAREENON MAE"
Above is an Urdu verse which can be translated as “Respect is the first step towards love”. Indeed it’s true. Respect is one of those assets which we see fading from our society. Everyone seems too proud of what he or she thinks. Discussion or considering others opinion especially of those who are younger than us seems more like a humiliation. A boss would rarely consider his secretary’s opinion or ideas in important affairs even if it is better than his own. Pin pointing and criticizing someone over something has become a very easy thing to do. But bearing it is the hardest part. And the reason to it is we don’t respect others view. I don’t mean to say that bear all sorts of criticism, I condemn needless criticism. But if someone criticizes you for your welfare then you should put his opinion into consideration.
If you start to think that there is nobody who correct except you, then soon a time will come when you won’t be welcomed anywhere. A person must learn to respect what the other thinks, even if it is contrary to his/her own thoughts. I remember a very famous celebrity who very rightly said during an interview, “I won’t call someone an extremist if he does not agree with me”. And it’s true that what starts with a difference of opinion usually ends in a fight unless all opinions are respected.
Sectarian violence all around is also due to the fact that we don’t respect each others’ cultures & traditions. If someone doesn’t practice what we do or if someone doesn’t agree with what we say it does not mean that he or she is a wrong person. We must learn to respect others religion & their ways of life. If someone does not follow our tradition or does not believe in our religion, we have no right to condemn them or to make fun of them.
Once you respect others religion, tradition & culture & show your respect to them, you receive respect back from them. As I said in the beginning of this topic “Respect is the first step towards love”, once you respect someone’s opinion, they will too, put your thoughts into consideration & an environment of love & harmony will develop. This will bring -- unity.
Unity in any place is severely affected by following reasons,
One of the reasons is misconception. Whether you are colleagues, friends, a couple or anyone, never let any misunderstanding come in your life. If any does come don’t let it have an influence on your life.
Another reason by which unity gets badly affected is terrorism. Terrorism gives rise to sectarian violence & also to misunderstanding when it causes sectarian dispute. Obviously, none other than terrorists are to be blamed. Not only they are to be blamed, they are to be stopped as well, for they cause harm & fear as well.
I remember a famous singer saying, “I want to unite people”, and we need people to think that way. Do whatever it takes to unite people. Politicians have a big role in destroying unity because almost every one of them tells the people that he/she is right. In this way some people support one, some support other & may have a dispute. However, those politicians who have worked diligently for the sake of people, I really whole heartedly praise them & appreciate their efforts.
Make friends with people in your office, school, college or neighborhood on the things that are common in you. Respect the differences instead of having a dispute over them. You see, it’s like some sort of chain reaction. Respect follows unity which then gives rise to peace & where peace is, that place seems like Heaven.
In today’s world, we find these precious assets, respect & unity fading from our society. Pride has become the wear of every other person. Less respect is shown to others’ opinion these days & one feels proud of what he or she thinks. Let’s make this world a lovely abode to live in, and preserve respect and unity.
Ending this discussion on lyrics that reflect mine & the thoughts of those who hope & pray for peace.
"I pray for a day
When there’ll be
Justice and unity
Where we put aside our differences
Fighting makes no sense
