November).

The pursuit of Rommel and the DAK ended in a resounding victory for the Allies. It freed the continent of the Axis and provided a southern springboard into Europe for the Allies who now counted the Americans in their ranks. For many, the battle at El Alamein was the single most important victory of the war. Its significance was appreciated even then as Churchill ordered church bells to ring for the victory in North Africa.

"Before Alamein we never had a victory. After Alamein we never had a defeat.'" - Winston Churchill.

A Note from the Author

I have made every effort to ensure historical authenticity within the context of a piece of fiction. Regarding spelling, please note I have followed the convention of using English, as opposed to US, spellings. This means, in practice, the use of ‘s’ rather than a ‘z’, for example in words such as ‘realised’.

For further reading on I would recommend the following sources, of which I made extensive use: The Tank War, Mark Urban; Forgotten Voices Desert Victory, Julian Thompson; SS Panzer SS Inferno - Eyewitness Panzer Crews - Normandy to Berlin; The Desert Rats, Robin Neillands, The Desert Rats, Major-General GL Verney, The Desert War, Alan Moorehead, Brazen Warriors, Major Robert Crisp, C.E. Lucas-Phillips, El Alamein.

YouTube is, of course, a treasure trove of documentaries covering this period.

Other internet sources have wonderful anecdotal and factual information. These include: BB2 People’s War - https://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar; www.
