“No worries,” I chuckled. “My bad. Should’ve watched where I was going. Sorry. I’m really tired.” I’d been saying that a lot in the past two hours. It wasn’t an empty excuse. My exhaustion was thickening around the edges of my awareness like an increasingly insurmountable force, tunneling my vision and blurring my thoughts no matter how hard I tried to focus.
“It’s my fault, my king,” Horna whimpered. “I was the one not watching where I was going.” She pushed her eyeglasses up her pixie nose with one finger.
“It’s fine. Don’t worry about it. What’s up? Is there something you need before I catch some sleep?”
“I hate to bother you, my king, but you have a very full schedule today.”
“I do?” As tired as I was, the only thing I wanted to fill was Horna, so said Scepter. If I wasn’t careful, he was going to take the reins and ride Horna straight to Going Down Town, followed by an extended layover in Pound Town, and then last stop: Down For The Count Town.
“Yes, my king. I understand you were up all night. Shall I rearrange your schedule?” she asked, glancing down at her tablet.
I heaved a sigh. “What’s on the menu for today?”
“Menu, my king?” Horna frowned. “Did you want breakfast first?”
“That’s not a bad idea, but it was a joke. I meant what meetings do I have?”
“Let’s see…” Horna said, flicking her finger across her tablet. “You have a meeting with PowCon to talk about fixing the base’s Shield Dome.”
“That’s right. I totally forgot,” I said, thinking a functional Shield Dome might mean the difference between me surviving versus death by dragon. “Anything else?”
“Engineering to talk about repairing the damaged Perimeter Wall.”
“What happened to the wall again? Sorry, it’s been a busy four days.”
“This is your fifth day, my king.”
“Not until after I have breakfast,” I winked. “Anyway, what about the wall?”
“Titano broke it?” Horna offered. “When you floated him over it?”
“Oh that’s right. Shit. That still isn’t fixed?”
“No,” Horna shook her head. “You’ll be meeting with PowCon and Engineering on that. Apparently, they have to work together to fix it. Something to do with the emitter thingy for the Shield Dome. It’s part of the perimeter wall.”
“Got it. What else?”
“Five of the Hellfire Cannons are still down, thanks to those CyberKnights. The Hellfires need replacement.”
“Right. We’ve only got one Hellfire left, right?”
“I believe so, my king.”
“That’s not much in the way of outpost defense, is it?”
“No, my king. There’s also the issue of basic resupply.”
“Are we running short on something?”
“Food and medical supplies. Raw materials for repairing the perimeter wall. That might be why it’s taking so long. You’ll have to ask. And some of the women are due for R&R in the Royal Kingdom. Oh, and Colonel Sadys wants to discuss scheduled maintenance for the Collection Disc.”
“Wow, that’s a lot,” I sighed.
“It’s a full day, if not two. From what I’ve heard, the Shield Dome is a real problem. There’s some big part for it they can’t get for whatever reason. Last but not least, First Lieutenant Mira wants to know when she can expect you on the flight deck for your first armed patrol with Air Guard. And there’s that pesky issue of the icky demon women in the stockade.”
“The white ones?”
“Yes,” Horna nodded emphatically. “Some of the officers are starting to make noises about executing them.” Horna lowered her voice to a concerned whisper, “They’re worried the demons will break out and hurt someone.”
“Please tell me that’s the last thing on my schedule,” I groaned.
Horna crinkled her nose and leaned toward me.
I could tell she wanted to say something private, so I leaned in.
She whispered, “Lieutenant Dyna was released from the stockade late last night, per your orders. I think she might be instigating the movement to execute the white demon women.”
“Of course she is,” I grunted and stood tall.
“One other thing,” Horna tittered.
“Yeah?” I leaned down again, trying to hide my annoyance.
She leaned her plump lips so close to my ear, I could feel the chill warmth of her minty breath wash seductively across my cheek. She was so close, I could hear the clicking of her wet mouth.
That gave Scepter all kinds of inappropriate ideas.
Horna may have been nerdy and quirky, but she looked like the supermodel cosplay version of a nerd who happens to do porn on the side. She whispered, “Everyone wants to know when you’ll choose your first, my king. It’s been five days. Everyone is saying that’s a record.”
“I’m sure it is,” I grumbled. My eyes dropped to Horna’s substantial cleavage wholly by accident.
She had huge boobs.
Huge.
The kind you could dive into and drown a happy man. Even better than what Colonel Sadys had. Difference was, Horna was nothing like that snake.
I felt a jolt of honest arousal for Horna.
Any other day, I would have been all over Horna to have my hands all over her breasts and the rest of her. With her permission, of course. Thing was, I technically didn’t have to ask. I was the kind of man who would, but I already knew Horna’s answer would be yes, yes, yes! Please, my king! Yes! Make me your first! Bed me before all others!
I jerked my eyes painfully away from the treasure of her cleavage. It was painful because I wanted to keep looking for at least another minute, and Scepter never wanted to stop. But I did tear my eyes away. Big mistake because my gaze landed on several Shock Knights standing in the hexagonal corridor behind Horna. As usual, the Shock Knights wore their golden boots-and-gloves-only uniforms, with everything important hanging out for my pleasure. Like being at a strip joint where every woman was yours for the asking. Again, technically, I didn’t have to ask, but I knew their collective answer would be yes, my king! A thousand times yes! What took you so
