that," Viki said. "I doubt the buffs will last until we reach the hideout."

"Also, Louie, you and I need to do some shopping," I said.

"Oh, that's right!" he exclaimed and let out a soft, excited howl. "I'm level 21 already. I got D-grade mastery. How cool is that?"

At long last, I looked at the notification that had been flashing at me since we got back and brought it forward.

Congratulations. You have advanced to level 20.

You can now complete your class-upgrade quest.

You have gained D-Grade equipment mastery.

You can now use D-Grade weapons, armor, and accessories.

Congratulations. You have advanced to level 21.

"Can we enchant them too?" Louie asked Rory.

"Sure ye can," he replied. "If ye've got the money. I wouldn't go above +3 though. No point in risking it right now."

"Actually, Rory," I started, "could you loan me some money? If we're all going, it would be great if Louie and I were equipped adequately and I spent all of my savings on the quest item."

"Can't have ye dying now that ye've said ye'll help me with me problem back home, can I?" he said and grinned. "Just order what ye need and I'll pay for it."

"That's great, man. I really appreciate it."

The dwarf simply waved his hand in the air in response as he lay down on the floor.

"Okay, Louie. You look for your equipment and how you want its appearance modified and I'll look for mine."

"Noice!" he said and grabbed his own tablet. "Viki, are you okay with your gear?"

"I'm more than fine with what I have," she said and smiled appreciatively, something that even I could tell she wasn't used to doing. "You don't need to worry about me."

"Alright then," I said and dived into the DEM market.

As I set up the filters for my search, I realized how easy and natural it had felt asking for money from Rory, whereas a few months ago, I wouldn't even dare mention my hospital bills to Leo in fear that he'd insult me by paying them. This time, it was so casual.

Perhaps if I hadn't been so hard-headed, I wouldn't be in this position right now. But pondering over all the possible what-ifs and might-have-beens was as unproductive as it was unnecessary, especially at a time like this. So I decided to focus on my equipment.

Once I'd narrowed down the results I'd get for my searches to only those that could be delivered to us immediately, I started with the easiest of what I needed: accessories.

Which reminded me... "Louie, I'm getting accessories for both of us, okay?"

"Okay," he said absentmindedly, focused on his own shopping. "Just get them transmuted into earrings for me, so I can put them on my hat. Oh, you're getting gloves, a helmet, and boots as well, right?"

I nodded without looking at him as I selected D-Grade necklaces and sorted them by maximum Magic Defense. The top-grade necklaces were quite a lot more expensive than what we had paid for the E-grade ones, which made me wonder just how much in debt I'd be in to Rory by the time we'd bought everything.

Name: Necklace of Displacement

Type: Necklace

Rarity: D Grade

Magic Defense: 48

Durability : 2100/2100

Weight: 15st.

Description: A necklace that slightly deflects all visible light, making it seem like the wearer is standing a bit further away than where they really are. This effect grows stronger, the longer away the wearer stands from the observer. This quality of the necklace can provide up to a 20% increase in evasion against projectile attacks, physical and magical. However, the bonus doesn't apply for magic-sight-assisted attacks.

Price: $17,650

That was a huge fucking jump in prices between E-grade and D-grade equipment. I wondered if all D-grade pieces cost almost ten times more than what I was already wearing. Many times I had resisted the urge to window-shop for my next set of equipment, thinking that there was no point. After all, saving up for Louie's quest item had always been my number one priority. But if D-grade cost this much, I couldn't even begin to think of the numbers that would come into play with C-grade or even higher.

Regardless, this wasn't the time to cut back on what I spent. We needed to be as well-equipped as possible before the assault. Thinking about it, the last time we'd been on such an extensive shopping spree was before raiding Abrathion's warehouse. This guy just had a knack for making me spend money on trying to kill him.

The ability of the necklace wouldn't be very useful this time, since we were going to be fighting indoors, if at all, but still this particular piece had the highest Magic Defense in my search. I added two to my virtual DEM shopping cart, one for Louie and one for me, and continued with the next items on the list: rings.

Name: Ring of Minor Wind Protection

Type: Ring

Rarity: D Grade

Magic Defense: 32

Durability: 2210/2210

Weight: 15st.

Description: This ring was crafted by air elemental goldsmiths in the prime elemental plane of air. The power infused into the pearl of this ring can generate and store up to 150 liters of breathable air per day, which the user can inhale by putting the pearl in their mouth. Additionally this ring provides 10% resistance to air-based attacks, which is not stackable with other identical rings.

Price: $10,700

This ring would give a good defensive bonus against the Rasengan-like attacks that most low-level spellcasters used, but there were only three of them available. I wasn't looking for something specific in terms of additional effects but definitely wanted to get four top-grade rings for maximum Magic Defense, so I added these three to my cart and looked at the next result in my query.

Name: Ring of Hidden Charisma

Type: Ring

Rarity: D Grade

Magic Defense: 32

Durability: 1930/1930

Weight: 15st.

Description: Some individuals possess a certain je ne sais quoi, a quality of their character that can't be put into
