day the Order disappeared, a powerful summoning ritual was supposed to have taken place. The robe designs of these monks have since been replicated, including the hand-stitched goat on the chest.

Price: $313,500

Louie was already breaking the bank with what he wanted to order. Looking at his items, my feeling went from panic--when I first looked at the price tag--to awe when I read their description, back to panic when I added them up.

"Damn, Louie," I said, having completely forgotten that he hadn't already gone to sleep.

"What's up?" he said and jumped off a sleeping Rory's belly.

"Sorry, buddy," I said, smiling at him while he stretched. "I just finished with all the pieces we'd need to buy."

"Oh, yes," he said and jumped on the sofa with me, his launch definitely boosted by his levitation spell. "Did you look at mine? Aren't they great?"

"They sure do look amazing, buddy," I said, not wanting to mention how expensive they were since he still hadn't bothered with understanding the specifics of the value of money. "Why did you pick those ones?"

"Well, you know how I always had to transmute my weapon or I had to put it in my inventory while moving and take it out whenever I wanted to cast something? With this book, I can bind it to me and it will just follow me everywhere. Plus, I can note non-combat spells in there and it will bring them to me in an instant."

"I guess having a spellbook following and flying around you would look pretty cool too," I said and rubbed his back.

"I know, right?" he said, wagging his tail. "And the armor was an easy choice too."

"How come? It doesn't have any special abilities."

"No, but I checked the Physical Defense and MP boost that separate upper and lower robe pieces would give me and even the best of them didn't come close to this one. Plus, Rory said the safe enchanting threshold for full-body pieces is +4."

"Oh damn, I completely forgot about that," I said and picked up the tablet again. "Let me see how many enchantment scrolls we can buy."

Item: Armor Enchantment Scroll

Type: Enchantment Scroll

Durability : 50/50

Grade: D Grade

Weight: 4st.

Description: A scroll of concentrated mana that can permanently boost the stats of a piece of equipment. Armor and accessories can be safely enchanted to +3. Full-body armor can be safely enchanted to +4. The higher the level of enchantment above the safe threshold, the more distinctive the aura around the item will be, taking different colors according to the enchantment level. Each enchantment below the safety threshold raises Physical or Magic Defense by +1 and each above the safe threshold raises them by +3. More bonuses can be unlocked at higher enchantment levels.

Price: $19,500

"Damn, that's expensive!" I said, surprised.

Rory momentarily stopped snoring though Viki continued looking outside the window.

"Why the hell did he sleep on the floor?" I continued. "There are king-sized beds in the rooms down the corridor."

"How expensive?" Louie asked, completely disregarding my comment about the dwarf. "Can we afford them?"

"Well, the snorer is paying so I guess we can. Let me check how many are available immediately."

I tried to purchase all of the ready-to-be-delivered ones. It seemed that most of those that cost less than twenty thousand dollars were sold by a union of merchants. The few odd ones that were available from other sellers, were either much too expensive or not available for delivery in time for our assault.

"That's eleven," I said. "Not nearly enough to fully enchant all of our equipment. Let me check for weapon enchantments too."

Item: Weapon Enchantment Scroll

Type: Enchantment Scroll

Durability : 50/50

Grade: D Grade

Weight: 4st.

Description: A scroll of concentrated mana that can permanently boost the stats of a weapon. Weapons can be safely enchanted to +3. The higher the level of enchantment above the safe threshold, the more distinctive the aura around the weapon will be, taking different colors according to the enchantment level. Each enchantment below the safety threshold raises Physical Attack by +4 for one-handed swords, blunt weapons, daggers, spears, scythes, etc., +5 for two-handed swords, blunt weapons, fist weapons, dual swords, etc., and +8 for bows. These bonuses are doubled when enchanting above the safe threshold. Each enchantment below the safety threshold raises Magic Attack by +3, and above the safe threshold by +6. More bonuses can be unlocked at higher enchantment levels.

Price: $185,000

"What the fuck!" I said even louder, though this time it wasn't enough to stir Rory from his sleep.

"What, what?" Louie asked and moved closer to look at the tablet. "Are there no weapon scrolls?"

"There are four available but they're fucking expensive."

"How much are they?" Louie asked, and then reconsidered his question. "The number doesn't matter. Is it too much? Won't we be able to pay it back?"

"We can definitely pay him back, but it will take longer."

"Then there's no problem, is there?" he replied.

"Louie, it's not that simple," I said. "Borrowing money from people is never simple."

"I don't know, Alex," he said and started maniacally scratching his ear with his hind paw. "Won't it help us with what we need to do?"

"Without a doubt. Especially if we end up in battle. Your healing spells will become stronger if we get your weapon to +3 and--"

"Why my weapon?" he asked.

"Well, we've got four scrolls," I explained. "Let's say we get your weapon up to the safe threshold which is +3 and then we make mine +1."

"But in the case of battle, a +3 weapon will be of little use if I run out of MP."

"Okay, then let's do +2 each," I counteroffered.

"Alex, no," he insisted. "Your attacks never run out. Your weapon should be +3."

"Okay, but we use all of our armor enchantments on your pieces and that's not negotiable."

"But you'll be in the front--" he tried to argue.

"Not negotiable." I cut him off, and he growled softly.

"Fine," he finally said. "I'll just have to spend all my mana healing you."

"Okay,
