Abby couldn't stop thinking on what George had told her the night before, she had become as bitter as lemons, she wasn't like that before but she couldn't help it, Bo had truly broken her heart and she felt down, always wanting to cry. George and her worked together in an advertising company and they were a real good team, at her job Abby was the best, she always had everything under control but her personal life was a mess.
"So, where are you heading?", George asked knowing too well she was going home to watch a movie and eat whatever she could find in the fridge or cereal her favorite food lately.
"Home, where did you think I was heading, to the White House?"
"Oh my, you are in one of those moods", he took his hands to his head.
"Look George I am about to go home to a perfect evening"
"That involves a lovely bowl of cereal and another of those comedies you seemed to enjoy so much lately", she picked up some papers from her desk and placed them on one of her drawers the she looked at the English man in front of her.
"What better company than a bowl of cereal", she used sarcasm.
"So you are saying you are going to spend the rest of your life this way?", she got her bag and walked towards the door.
"I don't know what you mean?"
"Oh really, well I do think you need the English treatment, so lets go",he got her by the hand.
"Wait a minute George, where are you taking me?"
"To a nice restaurant, you are eating with me tonight but please restrain from mentioning you know who or I will kill that man myself", she had to laugh, at least he was a good friend, the best she ever had or perhaps the only one she ever had.
"You are not serious, you can't be, I am not in the mood to go to a restaurant, not tonight"
"Not tonight or ever, right?, well my girl I have something else in mind, lets go", how could she fight him?, there was no way on doing so.
"I think you are taking advantage of how I feel"
"To be honest with you you need to be taken advantage, stop feeling sorry for yourself, how could you let that idiot make you feel like this?"
"I loved him George"
"So did I but I am not crying over him", there he made her laugh again, George Thacker had a way with her, a good way.
"You didn't love him like I did", he looked at her as they got out of the building.
"True but he had a delicious laughter, oh that guy never laugh that is why it was delicious when he did so"
"You never take anything serious George, never"
"Not true I did, the summer of 2003 when I felt in love, lost my head, too many bottles of whisky and a perfectly good house in London, you see I understand", it was true, he had fallen in love and for a while was depressed too but he had to help her for he knew how it felt.
"We are going to walk, lets go to that italian restaurant you like so much"
"Whatever makes you happy George"
"No, no, I am trying to make you happy", they walked side by side.
"Why?"
"Well because deep down I like you, you need me and we English people can make things better", she smile at him.
"So you are saying that you truly like me?"
"Of course I do darling, whats not to like, I have to say I don't like the new you, so that is why I want the old Abby back"
They walked to the italian restaurant, a nice place, small and cozy with the best italian food in New York, at least Abby thought so.
"So tell me George, was she the reason that you came to New York?"
"Who?"
"That woman that made you drink, your ex wife"
"Whisky had never been cheap, I can't tell you that", he didn't want to talk about her for he didn't want to remember the old days.
"That is why you play the field", Abby said.
"The only field I play is when I play polo, I had the best matchs in front of the Queen, she was delighted when she gave me a trophy once"
"You are joking, right?"
"Not really, she gave me a trophy once, she was dress in a really sexy canary yellow dress with a very charming hat, oh adorable"
"Oh George, be serious"
"I am serious darling"
They went into the restaurant, he was going to make sure, she had a good time...
