After Mark was cremated, we drove back to the house with his ashes. We being the three of us, me mum and dad. That's what we would just have to get used to now.
Chapter 14
Mom and Dad had to leave early the next morning to catch a flight to New York. They obviously didn't want to go but duty calls as they say.
I stayed in my bed and tried to get sleep which I had been deprived of the night before. My head ached from all of the weeping I had done and I just felt defeated.
Before I knew it, it was nightfall and I still hadn't slept a wink. I thought about how I would have loved to be alone in the house if Mark was alive, but now it just seemed too quiet. However, I felt myself drifting off to sleep.
I woke up right away removing myself from the terrible nightmares of the accident. I didn't remember it. The doctor said that it was because of shock but I got sudden flashbacks of a bright light shining through the car window and then, I grabbed someone's hand, it must have been Mark's before we fell into blackness.
I jumped out of my bed, determined not to fall back into that treacherous nightmare and went down stairs. I walked into the kitchen, turning every light on as I went and found a note on the refrigerator. It read : 'Sorry we can't be there for you darling, but call this number if you feel low, all our love, Mom and Dad x'
I looked at the number written on the bottom of the page and wondered whose it was. I had both of my parents' mobile and pager numbers and I most certainly didn't recognize this one. I thought it over with myself and typed the number into my phone.
A male voice answered. One I couldn't mistake, it was Aaron
Aaron's POV
I was awakened by the echo of my cell phone vibrating on my bedside table. I sat up slowly and answered the phone half asleep whilst trying to clear my blurry vision by blinking repeatedly.
"Hello," I mumbled wondering who would be ringing me this early. I wasn't in the mood for a drunken 'I love you man' speech from one of the members of the football team right now. I was on the verge of hanging up when I heard her, her voice was instantly recognizable, it was Lucy.
I shot out of bed while still holding the phone to my ear. She sounded like she had been crying, but she said only that she had the wrong number before she hung up, before I could reply. Something was wrong and I was going over there.
I quickly stuffed my feet into my shoes and ran to my car. The rain pelted down on me as I fumbled for my spare keys in the potted plant outside my apartment. But the only thing that was on my mind was Lucy.
When she was in the hospital, I promised Lucy's mom that I would look after her as I knew what their lifestyle was like, Lucy and Mark's. Their parents are never home but they always had eachothers company, even if they didn't greatly appreciate it. It was still better than being alone.
Now that Mark's gone, I feel like I owe it to him to take care of her, and I also had to ignore my feelings for her that had seemed to grow since the kiss. The one she didn't remember.

Ok I know, seems a little soppy and stupid but that's just how it is :D comments would be good please!!!
Lucys POV
I couldn't speak to Aaron, he wasn't the kind of person I wanted to deal with right now, I was an emotional wreck and every time I think of him, I am painfully reminded of that terrible night where I put him in danger and killed my brother. I simply mumbled something about calling the wrong number and I hung up.
I didn't know what to do with myself after that. I looked outside and the rain that drummed on the window pane seemed to hush for a moment as if it too was wanting me to fall asleep. I fought myself to stay awake unwilling to fall victim to my demented dreams and I would have if it weren't for a loud knock at the door.
It frightened me, it was half three in the morning, who was at my door? Before I could see who it was the door flew open and Aaron J Esdale stood infront of me, soaking wet with only a pair of grey sweatpants and black sneakers on. He looked worried, but when he saw me, he looked relieved.
"Lu, you're ok, you seemed troubled on the phone."
"Im fine, mom gave me the wrong number, I...." I lost my words and broke down into tears. I was wrong before, Aaron's company was just what I needed after having that terrible nightmare and staying in the house by myself. He seemed to understand then what it was that was making me cry as he gave me a quick hug and then put a movie on for us to watch.
I went to the bathroom to get a tissue and while I was wiping my eyes I looked in the mirror. I certainly didn't look attractive but I was too upset to care. As I trudged back towards the sofa I stopped and looked at the beautiful creature sitting before me. With his back towards me of course ( even though he has shown his gentle side, I wouldn't let him see me so struck by his appearance.) But flip, Thanks to the glowing light of the television I could see the raindrops that lay on his toned, tan body and it made me blush.
I snapped out of my silly, schoolgirl daydream when I realised something.
"Aaron, you must be freezing! You make tea or something and I'll get you a shirt."
Aaron's POV
I chuckled when she said that, 'make yourself some tea and I'll get you a shirt.' It was like, suddenly she was 80 years older. But, nevertheless I made us both some chamomile tea to help us get some sleep. By the looks of Lucy's tires eyes, she needed it and I know that I did too.
She returned a few moments later with a towel and a navy sweater, which I very distinctly remembered.
"Lu, I can't wear this... it was his favourite."
"Please, he would want you to have it. It would make me happy to see it worn instead of lying in a drawer upstairs."
I dried myself off and put the sweater on, I realised that Lucy also had one of Mark's shirts on over her pajamas and she was holding a crumpled piece of yellow paper in her hand.
"Whats that?" I asked in a whisper as the atmosphere seemed to have gotten more tense and akward.
"Here, look, I found it in his room." Lucy replied, also in a whisper.
I took the piece of paper from her hand and proceeded to read it, I couldn't imagine what it would entail as Mark was the kind of person who would keep things to himself, unless it was bragging about how many girls he had in the one night.
The piece of writing was entitled, 'Places to visit before I Die' I took a short pause and then continued to read through the vast list of places Mark had listed and the reasons why.
I took Lucys hand to reassure her.
"You're shaking like a leaf."
"He never saw any of those places...mom and dad could never take the time off work to go on a family vacation." She stuttered while staring blankly at the wall.
"Don't worry about that Lu, it's not your fault. Sit down and put the blanket around you, your freezing!"
Lucy lay down beside me and put the blanket over the two of us. "Im going to take him to those places, Aaron, I owe him that much."
And as she rested her head on my shoulder and fell asleep, I promised myself that I would be the one to take her.
