Death Keeps Coming Back

About twice in my life, I almost got killed. I don’t know if its bad luck for me, or the people I’m with.
The first time this happened, I was with my mom in Riverside, where I used to live. We were on our way home, and there was this stop sign, where it had train tracks. My mom stopped on them by accident. All of a sudden all the cars around us start to honk their horns. I looked to the right, and see they’re reason why. A train was headed right toward us! Even the train was sounding its bell to us. For some reason, my mom didn’t hear it. I tell her,” Mom! Mom! Look! A train is coming toward us! Look!” But she just looked at me and said, “Sahra, its not good to joke around like that”. I guess she thought I was joking. I kept telling her to go, but she was looking out for the cars that were passing by, and ignored me. Told her to look to the right, but she said the sun was there, and she didn’t have her sunglasses with her. Finally, I pulled her by the hair, and she saw the train coming. Then, a second later, she pushed on the gas petal. Before the train could reach us. I was so relived, and angry that she wouldn’t listen to me.
The second time this had happened to me, was the day after my sister’s wedding. We were celebrating their marriage. A lot of our family members out of the country and state were here. So they spend the night at our house. We were getting ready to go, and one of our close family friends’ children, which I usually say are my cousins, begged me to ride with them on the way there. So I asked my parents, and they said, “Yeah, you can go with them”. So I got in the car with them, and we drove to the party. With my parents leading the way. During our way there, we played some afghan music. But after a while, the children who were few years younger than me, started to fall asleep. I felt awkward, with them sleeping. So I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep. Then, my eyes jerked open, when the car swerved to the side. My cousins’ dad was trying to take control of the car. Then he pulled over to the left side of the freeway. We all got out and found out, the front tire had a hole in it. I thought we were never going to make it there in time. But luckily, they had a spare tire with them. A police driver saw their car pulled over and came to see what the problem was. He came and joined my cousins’ father to help change the tire. I remember seeing the police driver, bent over and seeing a hole in his pants. You could see tiny bit of his boxers. Then finally, the tire was changed, and we found our way back. When we reached our destination, they started to tell everyone what had happened to us.
I could never forget what happened to me and whom I was with, that time. I just wish that will never happen again…
