to see if you can do us a favor.”

“What kinda favor you asking for?”

“One where you get Torch to cause some fireworks down in Mexico out at the Alcazars’.” He’ll know what I mean about fireworks. Quickly, I give him a run down on what’s going on here and what our plan is for here.

“I’m sure it can be arranged, when do you need it done?” he asks.

“Soon as possible.”

“We’re heading to NOLA right now, but when we get back, I can make it happen,” Capone says, the tone in his voice changing.

“Thanks brother,” I mutter before hanging up. I’m sure he’d understand.

“Alright brothers, you heard what Capone said. Bane, call Raptor, see if they can come on down to help us out with clean up. This is gonna get messy,” I all but growl the last few words.

Bane nods in agreement and steps out of the room to make the call while the rest of us quickly put a game plan together on the best way to get this done. We don’t need them to get out of the sound if by chance they get to it first.

When Bane gets back to the room, he nods his head letting me know that the Iowa charter will be heading in our direction.

Good because now that Felipe has a bullet between his eyes there’s only one other person I can think of who would take Emery. Javier. When I get my hands on him, he won’t be walking around in one piece. I intend to make him feel my wrath.

What’s that saying?

Don’t play with fire unless you intend to burn.

Or better yet be scorched by the flames.

Chapter Seventeen

Emery

I want nothing more than to simply take my blade in hand and slice this asshole's throat. Unfortunately, the moment the car was parked they’d secured my hands.

“I know who you are sweetheart. Your reputation precedes you. Quite frankly, I’m sure there are several people here that would like to meet your acquaintance,” Javier chuckles as he grabs hold of my arm.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I mutter.

“Don’t try to play me for a fool. You are the Fate as your sister is the Seer. I’ve heard the stories of you two. Working together to take down anyone who stands in your way. Too bad that last job you did, was your mistake.” The venom in his voice sends a chill down my spine.

Demi and I knew that last job was a huge risk, but we were on a mission to take out those who harmed the innocent. Taking out Mario was worth it though. We’d been able to save three teenage girls from being brutally raped.

Instead of denying the whole thing I merely shrug my shoulders. “He deserved it,” I say.

“He was my cousin, perra. For what you did to him you’ll pay but I intend to let your husband watch as they rip you apart,” he snaps right before backhanding me.

“Go ahead and try,” I sneer, licking the blood off my lip from where his ring broke through the skin.

“I intend to,” he mutters, gripping my arm and dragging me down the dock.

This is it; he’s going to put me on one of these boats. This man has lost his mind if he thinks I’ll let him get me on that thing. It’s not happening. Nope. My hands may be tied behind my back, but my legs aren’t.

Glancing around I know there’s not many options on what I can do however I’m an excellent swimmer. Even without my arms.

Acting as if I were lightheaded, I stumble causing Javier to loosen his hold. “Walk right, we’re almost to the boat,” he grumbles and up ahead I can see his guards.

Shaking my head, I stumble again. This time when I do, I drop down and kick my leg out, knocking Javier off balance.

The moment he releases his grip on my arm, I suck in a deep breath, and jump off the dock splashing into the water.

“Get her.” I hear muffled from under the water.

With the ropes soaked, I wiggle my arms loose and begin to swim away. A sharp pain hits my arm and I have to fight not to come up for air. My lungs burn with the need for a deep breath, but I have to get further away before I do.

After another minute of swimming underneath the water, I come up gasping as I suck in a deep breath of salty air. Swimming as fast as I can I get as far away from the dock as possible. The fact they chose the Oregon Inlet harbor to bring me to gives me the advantage since I know this water. I used to swim it all the time ten years ago.

The water might be rough right now, but you can’t expect it to be still. It’s not some community pool.

Clearing my head, I wade through the water.

The sound of a boat motor causes me to stop for a moment and look behind me. A smaller speed boat is heading my way.

Damnit.

Diving under, I go far enough so that the propeller on the back of the boat misses me. There’s no way I’ll out swim a fuckin’ boat.

The boat goes past, and I go back up to the surface taking a deep breath. I know they’ll be back, so I suck in another breath before diving back under.

Some people would call me stupid for doing this, but I’d honestly prefer to take my chance with a shark like Katherine over suffering through what Javier had planned.

The closer I get to the shore near the bridge the safer I feel. I highly doubt those dipshits are smart enough to use the ramp and come all the way down here. If they didn’t try, they’d probably get stuck for not airing down the tires or better yet trying to use a non-four-wheel drive vehicle on ramp four.

As I make it closer to shore, I can feel the exhaustion
