Dedication
This E- Book is dedicated to the 'Silent Majority' of Kerala who, like Mother Earth,
patiently suffer the idiosyncrasies that the politicians of this God's own country
thrust upon them in the name of "Democracy"
.
“ A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow/ next week, next month, and next year.
And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen.” Sir Winston Churchill
In our case, the tragedy is that we have politicians who do not have either!
About Scorpio Stings
You all have experienced that sting from any insect is painful. The most painful sting that you can get is from a scorpion. It may even bleed you to death if not treated.
But the beauty is that our political class has become highly immune to stings even. from a scorpion; even deadliest of wipers can do no harm to them for their skin is so thick like the chobham armor, nothing can pierce it!
Scorpio Stings are unbiased short reflections scripted by me mainly out of frustration on weird NEWS items that tended to endanger the harmonious social living in this so called God’s own country so also in India in general. At times these are not short, but bit long too. Kindly bear with me!
These stings, which I scribbled over last 10 years, have conveniently found their cozy resting place in the shredder machines or in the waste paper baskets or in powder form in the incinerators of print media with out exception, probably because they did not meet their QR for publication . I have no regrets for I am an Aam Admi and not a celebrity!
Out of curiosity I made an attempt to read through all these stings once again since I have plenty of time to waste. I am quite convinced that Churchill’s words hold good verbatim even now, in 2015.
.
As a matter of fact, I wanted to publish all the stings as a printed book for like-minded people like you. To my pleasant surprise I found a wonderful site www.bookrix.com where you can publish your writings as E-books, which can be down loaded by the readers free of cost. So I have saved spending huge money in printing.
Hence, I present you this E- book titled ‘Scorpio Stings’ for your serious reading provided you have the time and inclination.
I earnestly request you to send your valuable comments, corrections and suggestions in my mail address gpvnair@gmail.com, which will enable me to upgrade the readability of ‘Scorpio Stings’

Thanking You

Scorpio Stings
01. Darkest week in recent times for Kerala: 0 4 Nov 2004
The week gone by has been the darkest in recent times for the whole world and also for this God's own country.
Yaser Arafat left for his heavenly abode without fulfilling his mission and the aspirations of millions of Palestinians. A trivial but grave omission on the Part of UN Forces in Ivory cost sparked off a massacre, which took away more than 75 human lives. In Russia seven soldiers were done to death for no rhyme or reason. And in the Indian capital five poor women were killed in a stampede in the New Delhi Railway station. Kanchi Shankaracharya has been arrested by the Tamilnadu Police in connection with the murder of one priest in the Varadaraja Perumal temple at Kancheepuram.
Here, in this so-called God’s Own Country more bizarre incidents took place. The eighteen-year-old unwed mother of a four-month girl died in Medical College Hospital, Kottayam falling prey to unscrupulous and most inhuman treachery of a gang involved in the heinous and oldest profession, flesh trade. Sari S Nair passed away without seeing once her ill-fated daughter and without even knowing herself who fathered her. If it is not shame on Kerala, then what else could be?
Another sex scandal rocking the conscience of Kerala took a wild turn for it was reported that the copies of statements of Rajina taken down in person by none other than Sugathakumari, the Nightingale of Kerala, then the Chair Person of Vanitha Commission were missing! Women from all walks of life protesting against the atrocities on women and Govt’s apathy in bringing the culprits to book burnt effigies of Chief Minister & Industries Minister of Kerala in front of the Secretariat. Addressing the gathering Sugathakumari asked in an excruciating voice
“Nammude samoohathil sthreekalku neethi pratheekshikkamo? Enikku aa pratheeksha illa. Sthree sakthi unaruka. Neethi nishedhikkapetta sthreeyude sabdam athisakthamayi uyaratte!”
The Silent Majority really cannot fathom whether these words are the snivels from the down trodden, molested and hapless Kerala womanhood or an outcry coming out from the wounded conscience of women throwing out a serious challenge to the self-assumed might of those vultures preying on women’s flesh. Either way you and me have to hide our faces in shame for we do not have any moral sanction to look at the eyes of a Kerala woman.
So obnoxious are the atrocities that are committed on women of this state and so strong are the nexus between the culprits and the powers that be the DGP had to recommend to the Chief Minister that Kiliroor sex scandal is handed over to CBI for investigations. Doesn’t it amount to a sincere admission that any investigation by the State Police on these types of heinous crimes cannot be done without being jeopardized or influenced by parties having vested interests? The presence of a such a powerful lobby is apparently confirmed by the highest Police official in the State and the haplessness of Kerala Police in handling such crimes with subtle dimensions and that the crimes are committed unabashedly with impunity. However it is pleasing to hear the Chief Minister stating that it is Govt’s responsibly to ensure that right decisions are taken at the right moment and the Govt is bound to ensure that the common public is convinced about the righteousness of such decisions.
Having granted that, can any one grudge if one feels that the same principle may also be applied to the Ice-cream parlour case. Doesn’t the common public demand the resignation of Industries Minister allegedly involved in the case? Can a Chief Minster take a view that it is an internal matter of Muslim League and is to be decided by them? Who from the common public has not demanded the resignation of Kunhalikkutty on moral grounds! Let us cross check. Public figures like Sukumar Azhikkode, ONV Kurup, Sara Joseph, Babu Paul, BRP Bhaskar, political parties like CPI, CPI (M), RSP, Kerala Congress (J), BJP, congress leaders like VM Sudheeran, Mullappally Ramachandran, Youth Congress leaders, organizations like NSS and above all women organizations in Kerala have questioned the impropriety of Kunhalikkutty continuing in the office and demanded his resignation. Do you need any more cross section of people to represent the common public? Also, could the Chief Minister ignore the mounting pressure from all corners including visual and print media?
Tailpiece:
Ms Kamalam, Chair Person of Vanitha Commission told in a press conference that the copy of Rejina's statement kept in locker is missing and its whereabouts cannot be traced out since the Secretary of the Commission and concerned administrative official are in US and in Baroda. Are we to assume that US and Baroda are in one of the alien planets and we have no communication with them!
02. Presidential Address … the way we treat: 27 Jan 2006
On 25 th Jan 06, on the eve of our 57th Republic Day, President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam addressed the Nation as is customary for every President. As a free citizen of India, I feel bit ashamed the way we have treated the Presidential Address. I am for one who believes that every Indian has the right to listen or read what the first citizen of India had to tell his countrymen on that auspicious occasion.
It was surprising that his address was brought on live only by Doordarshan. No other TV channel I know off had carried President of India’s address live on the 25th Jan. The most surprising and disgusting fact was that no news paper which I could lay my hands on, both English and regional, did not carry the full text of President’s Address even till date.
This is really an inexcusable omission on the part of the media; I am afraid no one has ever tried to raise this issue in any of the forums available in this country. More knowledgeable and those who are in seats of power might now be asked to find answers to few questions by the man in the street.
Is it not the very fundamental right of an Indian citizen to listen what the
